bad behaviour

Today I had a bad day.

In the morning my two boys displaying them as usual but I noticed the white boy (Glory) bullying white girl (Albina-Alia).When I saw her, I nearly start to cry. Her head was covered in blood. The boy pecked her in the back of the head and he still continually chasing and biting her, as well as a pied girl. :evil:

So what is that?
Please if any one know and explain me their behaviour? :?:

I had 2 peacocks and 3 peahens locked up. Peacock are displaying regularly as I early mention, but they are 1 year old and it is early for them to mate. I read some where it can happen to a girl in the breeding season, but :?:

can a boys mate when they so young :?:

Of course separate my little girl and I still very upset and I don’t know that I have to do now. SOS.

So I assume no one in AU had such a bad experience like I had. I am very glad. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any information about this behaviour at all. Only one person wrote at UPA Forum:
Is it just the Javas that do this .When they see blood they just don't stop till the bird is dead

so removed from the pen to heal up.

Yes she is getting better, so I made a right decision to separate her straight away. But a question is should I place her in the same pan later or not. If yes, then another question is when :?:

Hi Tash, sorry for the delayed reply but we have been very busy with our Businesses. Yes this type of behavior does occur albeit rare in Blues, but we know of instances in the White mutations. The reason is Peacocks come into season weeks before Peahens and the beginning of the season some Peacocks Testosterone levels are simply to high (particularly with immature Peacocks) and this can turn to aggression, particularly towards a young (immature) Peahen. They will peck the back of the head as this is the focal point for controlled mating that is to control the Peahen while mating but in Young Peahens that are not in season (not cycling) they do not yield and therefore flee from the Peacock/s and of course the Peacock/s will not give up. Yes you can return the Peahen/s to the pen but this must be done late in the breeding season (say January) or out of season (say April/May) and with caution. You must keep a close eye on them for the first 72 hours and if the Peacocks begin to peck at the back of their heads you should remove them immediately. You can put them back out of season but again with caution.

Hi Tash,
Just noticed your post about the white male causing injury to your white peahen. I had the same thing happen last season (2007) and had to move Prue out of the pen until her neck wound had healed. Put her back in with Snow when the season ended and all was fine until this season started and she was being chased continually by Snow and she was terrified. There was also another hen in with them but he wasn't chasing that hen at all. I moved her away from Snow and put her with Percy an older boy Indian Blue, but she was frightened of him too and he started chasing her around and around even though he had another hen in with him too. Finally had to accept that her experience last year has really caused a major trauma to her and I don't know if she will ever be ready to mate again. Prue is about 3 years old now so is not a youngster. I will wait until the season ends and will let her out to free range with Percy and his girls.

Hi Janb

I separated my white girl from all birds and after two weeks she became depressed. She stoped eating, laid arround and was very close to die. I made decision put her back to pen. But next morning at 5.30am I found all my four peacocks escaped from the pen. They was walking near the fence at my property and I made a big mistake by trying to get them back into the pen and I think pushed them too fast. They flew away in the different directions.I nearly lost conscious, I checked all properties around and found Frosty, Lory (white boy) and blue hen sitting on a big tree in a neighbour’s property. I waited them to go down and I caught one girl with my hands. I do'not know how I made it, probably beacause I was under stress. But Frosty and Lory got back to the tree and I also couldn’t find blue boy.

It was time to put my depressed white girl back to pen with a girl I've caught and they became friends after two hours.

It took me 3 days to make a trap to catch Frosty and Lory. Two days later my last escaper ( blue boy) came back by himself. I was so tired and angry to chase him so I open pen’s door and this boy like a bullet ran into pen without ecouregement. Which made me very happy. Now all of them sitting together. Sometimes white boy and pied peahen trying to attack white peahen but she is very smart now.
