Let’s look at the statement in details;

Riverlook poultry wrote: " Aus we don’t (unfortunately), have proper BSIB's, there are some spaulding aroung that have been crossed back to IB a couple of times" For this post and only this post I will use the term “Spalding” so let’s look at what is a "Spalding”, a “Spalding” IS a cross between a Green peafowl and a Black-shouldered Indian blue peafowl, ok let me be VERY clear here and repeat “Spalding” IS a cross between a Green peafowl and a Black-shouldered Indian blue peafowl. The first cross allegedly done by a woman in the US and named after her.

Ok so now that is very clear let’s move on to riverlooks poultry statement and I will and I quote him: “there are some spaulding aroung that have been crossed back to IB a couple of times” in order to have the “some spaulding aroung” we would first need the black-shoulders to breed the “Spalding’s” as that is what a “Spalding” is so from your own post you have already confirmed we have black-shoulders and therefore have already answered and proved it to yourself so do you believe your own words?

So just to clarify to have “Spalding” we MUST HAVE black-shoulder Indian blues, it is that simple.

So I have a couple of question to ask riverlook poultry

1. Who has the and I quote you “some spaulding aroung” in Australia? Please name the breeder in AUSTRALIA and post pictures of them from AUSTRALIA
2. Who has the and I quote you “we don’t (unfortunately), have proper BSIB's" and "spaulding aroung that have been crossed back to IB a couple of times” in Australia? Please name the breeder in AUSTRALIA and post pictures of them from AUSTRALIA

When you come up with photographs and name the breeder I will happily, like many others, continue the discussion with you

George

As I suspected, waste of time and I won't waste a second more.

Don't forget to respond to my post in full riverlook poultry?

Riverlook Poultry wrote:
If you care to notice PNSW, i have said 'PROPER' BSIB, i have not said we dont have a special mutation only found in Aus, as you have.

Actually you STATED they are cross breeds, no mention of special mutation.

From what I have read and deduced from this discussion and a few others, Riverlook Poultry is correct in saying that we do not have the real Black Shoulders as per overseas.
We have our own separate mutation, which is different to O/S. So both parties in this debate are correct.

PeacockNSW in my defense with regards to this comment “I ask you Ken how you can understand that they are cross bred [I don’t use the yank term – Spaulding what a joke]? What do you base this on?” I should have had more clarity on my comments on this. If someone was to do some research on Peacock mutations unfortunately most information that is found is from the USA or Europe. Therefore with the information available one could come up with the idea that Black Shoulders, as displayed on the internet do not exist in Australia. One can easily come to a conclusion with this information that in Australia that there are hybrids.

I offer apologies for asking questions that may have been asked before, but due to time restraints I have not come across those questions in previous postings. There are 602 topics in the Peafowl & Pheasant Forum, I am slowly digging my way through them all.

Spalding, Hybrids, Crosses. Does not matter what term is used they all mean the same thing. From my research on O/S websites the term is used for any peacock that has a mix of Blue and Green blood. I had read somewhere that the name was derived from a (late) Mrs Spalding. But I would be surprised if a number of hybrids didn’t existed well before this but were never given a name.
Humans just love to experiment with crosses.
The pictures from O/S are fantastic of the Spaldings are very beautiful, but at what cost are they to the now rarer species? This is a sad fact with a lot of our domestic species, so many are being lost.

Ken, yes we do have real Black Shoulders just not exactly the same as per overseas in most examples but real all the same. You don't have to apologize for asking questions that may have been asked before, with such a large forum it can be hard to find some things. I have to disagree with - Spalding, Hybrids, Crosses. Does not matter what term is used they all mean the same thing - as the first is as Colin described but we don't use the term here. I agree with you that the hybrid probably existed long before the breeder Spalding got credit for it as you say but no one wanted to own up to it. I also agree with your final comment and also if you buy a peafowl in the US you could breed god knows what as they are that mixed up.

That is correct the Spalding is in the true form a BSIB x GP so George is correct. I did go and read Riverlook Poultry post on the other site after it was raise here and I see the concern clearly as he does state they are cross breeds, he wrote = in Aus we dont (unfortunately), have proper BSIB's, there are some spaulding aroung that have been crossed back to IB a couple of times, while retaining the black on the shoulders (from the Greens) I can understand your experienced breeders upset over such a remark from a 15 year old with no experience. Perhaps more thought from this young boy before he posts.

I agree I read it yesterday and could not believe his DEMAND for pictures, WTF I thought maybe he would be best to read and learn more and type less

As bluepeafowl put it, Riverlook is a boy, 15 years old with all the enthusiasm and passion that that brings to a person.
It is a great sign that someone with that age is so passionate about our hobby, the furture is in good hands.
I think it would be best to put down any indescretion to inexperience.

PeasOfOz, I agree the demand was a little rough, but remember a passionate 15 year old. Definately that request could have been worded better. But I am sure that there are countless people out there who would love to see pictures of the Australian Mutations, I am one of those people.
