Blue Pied

Personally I much prefer the pieds from the web site links by bluepeafowl they have the nice dark blue they should have, some of these peafowl can be so washed out in colour. I don't have pied at this stage just normal blue & whites but I will be looking next year and already I have found a bloke locally [SA] that has nice dark pieds with lots of bright white patches. That’s just my preference of course.

Peafowl Heaven yes there are many that significant color has been lost and that was my main reference in relation to that particular peacock. Your preference is that same as mine and by the breeder’s everyware, good luck with your pied's next year

The peacocks in all 3 links are excellent I would love to have any one of them. They are defiantly good pieds for sure, thanks for the links bluepeafowl.

I don't think I have ever seen any bird with such short thick legs before. I have seen pics of Indian birds in their natural state and they have quite long legs. As they are a walking bird rather than a flying bird I would think a decent leg length and height would be imperative but as I say I am only postulating. I am totally ignorant as to "standards" but all my reading does not come up with a preferred leg length. Maybe in the States you have set standards??? I am still thinking that it is a preference rather than a necessity. And I am still waiting for pics of reverse pieds, even a "decent" say 50% pied in Oz.. again as I say, the USA ones are of little use to us as we can't import their genes. We can only look and wonder and as for the other variations well how do we do them??? Try and find a pure Java Green hen for sale in Oz!!!! It seems that is nearly impossible!!! Feel free "Burmese" to put up whatever you like in good pied pics... I am not restricting you and we can all learn. I just thought it would be good to see some Oz ones! I am assuming that the so-called "poor pied" that "NSW Pheasants" put up was an Oz one?????

I have been reading this for a few days now and have found most of the information to be accurate but some has given me reason for humour. I have many pheasants & peafowl and have done so for more years than I care to remember but certainly far more than 38 years. To the person wanting to see pictures of pied peafowl and from how I read it inferring that the pictured peacock is the only one in Australia I say join The Pheasant and Waterfowl Society in your state {Victoria?} and go along to a few meeting getting to know a few of the breeders. I am sure that once you have their trust they will show you their collection and you will have all the answers you need. You are obviously very fond of your peacock and the critic of him is not sitting well with you, which I understand as he may be a pet so I won't add to your woes by giving my critic of him. I can assure you there are a great deal of pied peafowl out and they have retained their good colour with 50 to 80% of white markings by joining the club and spending time with breeders you will quickly see that. If you need more convincing then contact the breeder peacocks Australia from Queensland I believe he is on this web site, he will no doubt endorse the club.

Leg length is usually talked about with regards to Spaulding as they are generally taller. In regard to variations, you have breeders already doing the job such as your biggest breeder, PA and although it may take longer with what seems like only the one working on mutations, have faith and patience and I am sure they will come up with many for everyone.

I have been reading about spaulding having longer legs than normal or as they put it taller than normal so I see what you mean now.

The last photo shows 2 very good pied peacocks with quite a good hen as well. These look typical of mine but many of my peacocks and some hens have much more white. They have it right using a white hen in the mix. That pied peacock we have been discussing should be bred over a good quality hen to strengthen the colour and quality that has been lost through the wrong matings.
