chook feed should be good, but you should give them turkey grower pellets to supplement there diet because it has more protein and it has the right ingredients.

they are less destructive than chickens when it comes to gardens, and they usually just eat the bugs.

the tail of the male should start to grow back his tail feathers in a couple of months. How old is he?

I give mine a little treat of sultanas and they love them , it is a good way of bonding with them , sort of like giving your kids chocolate.

Thank you for your reply, re; housing, I have read your 'ideal situation', but this is impossible by tomorrow unless I take them into my boudoir! High protein is no problem, Thanks. I also feed all my other stock with extra minerals, oils, and cider vinegar- does this apply? I shall just have to rely on that arrow in the sky that seems to send all the 'desperates' to my place! Do you mind if I keep you informed, and ask for advice when needed? Thank you in anticipation, Ronda

you can ask as many questions as you want

peafowl also like grapes as a treat, they go crazy over them, but you need to make sure you wash them well so you don't leave any pesticides behind because it can kill them

Are they destructive in the garden? (I guess I will have to cover the vegies) They can scratch up the gardens and yes you need to cover up the veggies. they particularly like digging hole for sand baths and for cool sand in summer.

The male has lost his train avoiding capture- will it regrow? Yes they shed their train each year usually by Feb.

The 2 young females are very people friendly and prefer to roost on his verandah-I have cats(very fat and lazy) who don't bother the other birds, will they be allright do you think? Cat don't pose much if any of a threat to Adult Peafowl if they get to close the Peafowl will send the cats packing.Anyhow, I would appreciate any helpful suggestions you can supply, Many Thanks, Ronda

Thank you for all the info, P.A.. I'm on 340 acres -The house yard is like an oasis in the dry bush, so I hope that will help keep them home.

wow! 340acres! They certainly will have a great home, wish i had that much land too :shock:
