Post subject:  Worming and Ticks

Hi
Recently I have seen a few posts on worming and ticks, I have never wormed my birds icon_gaah! What product do I use to worm ??
In regards to ticks I have never seen a tick on them, There pens are concrete in the roosting area and mainly dirt and plants in the rest.
Once a month I remove all the hay from their roosting area spray with a solution of eucalyptus oil and water, Once dry I replace with fresh hay.
Is this acceptable or do I need to spray birds also ???
Thank you

Depending what area you live and when your worm them, 2 -4 times a year seasonally.

"BIG L" is really good all round wormer. Mix in the drinking water if they are penned up and you should get a really great result.
For Gape Worm "Avitrol Plus" is a good liquid which I have had success in also through water.

My Peafowl are both free range and penned. Free range being more exposed to bushes/scrubs therefore more worms and ticks and sometimes harder to treat.

Do you have dust bath for them? Inside your aviary they like to dust themselves helps with mites and fleas etc etc, some people like myself choose to put flea powder in their dust baths to help mitigate the little critters.

woohoo4 Cleaning the hay in the manner you are doing is a great way to keep their pen lovely and clean!

Hi
Great thank you, Yes they have made their own dust bath.... and will try that.
Is there a way of telling if they have worms ??? Will buy some Big L and dose them anyway.

Fowls with worms will look off colour but still eat and they will be light. Also their poo will have worm tailings or castings or even worms themselves if its really bad. If you worm 3-4 times a year you should be fine
