conf665 [chicken-crow HI,

One of boys Peacock has sprained his wing (vet declared) & is ground ridden within his pen during recovery with cortisone shots. He is also being hand fed by his Mumma.

I was thinking of making/ using a sling/ harness to lift him off the ground during the night then i would let him down during day because they are use to being up high during the night. Not too high just off the ground say around 1 meter.

HAS ANYONE USED A SLING BEFORE FOR A PEACOCK? Or Bird?

Huedini tries to get up but only having strength in one side he is finding hard to stand and falls to his left side. He is mostly ground ridden. His will to live is so strong.
I will have the vet out again on Monday or Tuesday as he has made little improvement like the vet said. He did however eat so much food yesterday. Not so much today.
Vet originally declared that he has a sprained wing give him shots and 3 to 4 days resting.- but I suspect allot worse & possibly euthanasia. [smilie=sorry.gif]
I can't discount the tick I found under his eye, got in time but still would have put some poison in him.

Rather than a sling/ harness, We have made a wire tray with sides. Its long enough & I will be lining /padding it out tonight with an old blanket.
So for tonight the sturdy tray with sides will get him up off the ground tonight, and I shall bring him to the ground tomorrow.
This means he will have a better nights sleep.

Legs are strong and very resistant when pushed against! [smilie=a_cookiemonster.gif]

Thanks Fraggle - he had a tick under his eye, but we got that one !
Also his original injury happened on Wednesday ( hit by a car while cock fighting- I did not see it happen!)

So its been 5 days more than enough time to show improvement if were tick paralysis. good_post!

UPDATE [smilie=a_holycrap.gif]

Yeah its not good- spinal damage quality of life deteroating and is dependent on me…

He was my watch dog so in tune with me- his life mission with me is over….can't really type much more as it hurts too much!

We will have to euthanize "Houdini" tomorrow at 12 noon!

Meanwhile so thankful these intimate close encounters that will be a "burnt into my heart forever"

Thank you ever so much for deep condolences….

I have unified the letting go and loss within my heart, however what remains in my memory is the recognition of the gift these creatures truly are…they are beautiful yes, but up close or sick they really do come into their own light .
The white chair is still empty, but only to the eye, the love for all things remain alive and pure.

Not sure how old he was but love doesn't really have an age…does it? or a species? Love just is… canagoose
