Lost our peacock a couple of weeks ago. Found him dead at the base of his roosting tree. No idea why.
Now because of this I didn't expect any eggs this year as the other male is only a year old but today I found a nest with 6 egg.

1. Whats the chances of the eggs all being fertile given there has been no peacock for almost 2 weeks? Peacock had been observed mounting the hen.
2. Whilst it is a sheltered area they have been laid in its far from fox proof. Normally she lays in the shed but not this year. Is it possible to move the eggs to a more secure location or will she just abandon them if I try. Incubator won't be free for another week at minimum.

6 eggs would = 12 days to lay you then have 10-12 day before decreased hatch rate so yea they should be ok

No you won't move her

Guess I'll find out in a couple of weeks with any luck. However Mr Fox has been spotted a couple of Kms down the road. The new chook run should be finished by then so hopefully I can entice her into there if and when they hatch.

As an update out of the 6 eggs 4 were fertile. 1 pipped but didn't get out. Of the other 3 that did hatch 1 got squashed. The Hen and the 2 surviving chicks are now in the new pen so safe.
