P.A, I am very interested in knowing what mutations haven't been approved yet or are being established or how they managed to selective breed them to get black shoulder peafowl. when did you start making new mutations ect?
are you able to post pictures of the birds you are establishing? i have many more questions but don't want to ask to many questions.

Hi Tahir, Black Shoulder was the first variety to appear besides the natural India Blue. It is dated back to 1823 in Europe, and the 1830's in America. It is one of the most common types with U.S breeders and is often used to carry newer and rarer genes. It also randomly appeared in Australia, we purchased 1 trio approx 12 years ago and worked on stabilizing the Mutation, we then selected those with the largest Black Shoulder markings and began line breeding them. We purchased 2 Peahens in 2004 from NSW to use as out crosses, we are currently at Phase 7. We started on mutations about 14 years ago, but it is a long term venture. We are working on "Midnights" these are bred from Charcoal & Black shoulder and are currently at Phase 4. We will have some Photos in the Future as they Colour (chicks look the same as Blues) and will put them up.

We are determined and committed to the Importation of Many Peafowl Mutations in the Future.

Thanks
P.A

are the peachicks of the black shoulder peafowl white? and are the peahens whitey cream with specks of black and brown like that of the peahens in the U.S? it seems that you have been working on this project for a long time. there is one thing you need to keep in mind...still try to conserve the natural beauty of the indian blue peafowl as it can never be replaced if cross bred out until there is no pure specimens left. it would be great to get more mutations imported from the U.S such as peach, opal, bronze, camoe, purple, ect. and if you can import some specimens or eggs, try to import some pure java greens and their 7 species that green peafowl are made up by (pavo miticus, pavo imperator, pavo javanensis, Pavo antiqus, Pavo spicifer, Pavo annamensis,
Pavo arakansis), and maybe other species of pheasants such as argus and tragopans. if you can take pictures of the 7 phases of black shoulder peafowl that would be great ;)

it will be very expensive importing so many eggs but it's worth it to keep these beautiful birds alive.

Hi Tahir, The chicks are not as light as the U.S, they have a far more established Mutation/s lines. Yes we have been working on this a long time & a long way to go but with Maturity at 3 years it's always going to be a long process. We don't cross breed, Black shoulder is an Indian Blue as a base mutation. Our first on the list is Green Peafowl, P. m. muticus
P. m. spiciferP. m. imperator. Then comes many of the Indian blue Mutations, which is many, Peach, Midnights, Silver, Cameo ECT.. Yes we would also look at several Pheasant species.

Thanks
P.A

Hi Ian, you’re right they are developing new mutations on what seems an annual basis. With Mutations comes Mutations and many appear unplanned. A good example is "Midnight" Germany is also developing new Mutations and they also have some of the best lines of Greens.

Thanks

Thanks Peacocks , I have seen some of the black peafowl on an American site , I think one was charcoal and one was midnight , when you get to the stage of selling any, please put me on the waiting list I would love to help breed any of the beautiful colours I have seen , We just love our whites and before I saw this great website we didn't even know they existed , I suppose us country folk get a bit sheltered up here in the bush . Is their anyone in Australia who has the charcoals or midnights yet ? Ian

i think P.A is the first to develop these mutations Australia :!: i didn't even know we had anything close to black shoulders. I am on another forum were there is allot of discussion on the 7 species of java green peafowl, it seems that a sad thing in australia is that people are crossing different species of green peafowl together and crossing indian blue peafowl with green peafowl together so now it seems there might only be a couple of pure java greens left in australia and there most likely going to get bred with an impure java green, and I'm sure my java green peafowl are impure and most of your java green peafowl too P.A. We have to face the facts  so we need to import pure lines that they know there breeding record and all and we have to give everyone a fact sheet on all the species and what species of the java green peafowl that is (e.g Pavo imperator) so that they don't pollute the gene pool and they know a bit more about the birds they are buying, and they can do there bit in conserving these beautiful majestic birds.

here is a link discussing the several different species, the photo's of the different species start on page 7. it's worth reading!
