That's a great diverse diet, they'll do well Peter. I grow seed for my Chicks & they love it :-D I use budgie seed in cotton wool & water

lol i use canary mix, also i let them out of the coop into the backyard under strict supervision (damn neighbourhood cats) and they love finding new plants to eat, unfourtunatly now when ever they see me they run to the door in hope of going for a walk outside.

Ours do exactly the same thing, it's funny when I walk off and look back they all just stand there at the door staring at me, they make me feel guilty :( even though they are out for half the day :-?

Mine are outside all day, but now they are too good for there outside run they want to explore. its funny watching them though, if one finds somthing interesting to eat the other will always run up and snatch it ouf of there mouth and then the game of chase begins.

Hi Peter16, Canary seed is fine infact it's very good for them. If you want to know how fresh it is try sprouting it, should sprout in 48 hours if fresh.

Thanks
P.A

I just use it out of the box, I use Golden cob & it sprouts really quickly and they love it. I think it's very good for them & it has a lot of minerals.

Great idea about sprouting seeds! I have been wanting to feed my chicks some greens, but worry about them swallowing enormous bits of grass and choking (I've pulled a couple of pieces out of chickens beaks in the past and found them to be horribly long - maybe not a worry, but it scared me! ). The sprouts would be great.

I've been meaning to sprout some for my parrots & cockatoos, but didn't think about it for the chicks as well! :)

Thanks for the tips! I'll get some sprouting this week.

Deb
