I was out with the choox this afternoon and notice my black australorp had a whitish yellow discharge coming from her ear, i had a closer look and its quite hard and sticking out of her ear. Is it some type of ear wax or should it be there at all.. Any sugestions?

The photo doesn't show it sticking out but i would say its about 1/2 a cm out and seems to be attached as it doesn't move when i touch it but she does whimper a little..

This might be a silly question but have you tried cleaning it out and see if their is anything in its ear:?: also you can then see if it comes back.

Yes, it was stuck to the ear but managed to get it out with some damp cotton wool to help it. It seems like some kind of ear wax as the other ear has a little on the sides, i can't see anything in them so i'll just keep a check on it and see what happens.. ;)

Oh i was just wondering if there might be some sort of infection there. If it has a bad smell it mightn't be a bad idea to give it a bathe with warm salty water.

My australorps ear has been good for a while but i've just noticed that its now very swollen and clogged again, there is also a very rotten smell to it as well :-?

Any suggestions of what i could use to solve the problem or should i try a vet? I don't really think that the vets in my area treat choox as we are in suburbia..

thanx in advance
