The Pestene is easy, as it come in a container that is like a salt & pepper shaker. You can either put it around to the big hole or the little holes, so no need to do the milk bottle trick. [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif]

Pesteneing the girls is easy, just flip them over on their backs & hold their legs with one hand & use the Pestene with the other. I find if you elongate their legs they lye still a lot more than if their legs are crunched into their chest. Then, before I grab the Pestene (after they're on their back) I pull their wing out & then shake some under their little arm pits & rub that in, then once both their arm pits are done I then quickly crunch their legs into their chest & do their fluffy bottoms.

Then I flip em over & do their back & head & tops of their wings, then let them go.

Clyde's really funny after the girls have been deloused he thinks he's got a new girlfriend

Totally agree with Watson, you def need to do their perches.

Don't leave anything to chance. Douse the lot, otherwise ll your hard work will be undone in a matter of days

Also you can add Pestene to their favourite dust bath hole. My girls have dug a huge hole under their house. They are slowly digging to China [smilie=a_rolling.gif]

I was thinking along the same thing almost Chickababe

Been thinking of adding more soil to the run and when I do get the Pestene and poultry dost adding some of it to the new dust bath soil

Grace is acting up aging so a tin of tuna in the morning

Little nervous of laying the girls on their backs for the dusting could they choke.

Ah ha a ha [smilie=a_rolling.gif]

No, they won't choke. Don't be nervous.

I worry about the Pestene losing its effectiveness when putting it among dirt which is why I put it directly on them as I don't want any chance the little critters will come back Or that they won't go away.

Thank you Chicka-Dee

Last time I caught Grace plucking a feather from Lord Francis she then pecked at the feather at the end that had been in his skin.

Strange how the Chook crown has passed around

frist
Henrietta then Bertha then Harriet then Esmeralda then it was Harriet aging then Grace now the king has arrived

Before Queenship Grace was always one of the second in command

Apart from Henrietta and Grace it was sickness that lost them the crown
It was the Tuna that saved Harriet and the worming.

Just put a deck chair near the coop and sit them on your lap. It helps to talk to them and pat them first. Do the rooster or the boss hen first so the others can see that there is nothing to be afraid of.

Wear an apron, if you are allergic to sulphur wear protective eye wear, a face mask and cover your hands with surgical gloves.

Dust the nesting box and especially corners of the coop if they are wooden as mites tend to hide in there.

Most important thing is to be calm so they chooks are calm.

Thank you sounds like the way I will be doing the dusting

The nesting boxes only have a wooden perch.

The only wood in the hen house is the nesting box perch and the sleeping perches
The walls and roof are metal and so is the grit bowl
The feeder and water bowls are plastic

Hugs to Lady Frances
