I cluck to my chookies and they cluck back. Most people think I'm a bit odd clucking to my chookies, but I don't give a 52.gif

Sorry for going [smilie=offtopic.gif]

Oh No, not at all. He's a Standard. And yes a very handsome chap, I agree. :-D If you look at the photo of him you will see the tiles on the wall which are 200x200 & he stands above all 3 tiles so he's about 600 high from foot to tip of his crest or 2/3rds of a metre high or about mid thigh on me :-D

Nothing wrong with trying to communicate with your animals! Whether its a cluck, a baa or a bawk bawk bawk, I say we're all perfectly normal

Very true Chicka_Dee its lovley to talk to our beautiful feathered friends or the sheep

the sheep are not like chookies they take but do not give back

Chookies give back their hearts and souls

Must of not been looking at Clyde's pic well when I thought him as a bantam

I do hope I can raise King Henry into a great Rooster like Clyde

how did you raise the great gentleman Clyde.

i think it was already his nature when I got him. I try never to frighten him when I need to grab him, even though I know he is very afraid of being grabbed. I have to "sssh" him while putting him into a corner and then grab a hold of his wing & talk to him gently when picking him up. :-D

I never need to restrain his legs when I'm carrying him to the house. I just have my arm around his body & undecarriage & he is always very comfortable with being carried.

We also talk to each other. He might "caw" out like he's saying danger, but I pat him & let him know he's fine. I know now he hates going to my laundry as that is where we conduct "surgery", so when he sees we're headings the house he now "caw's" but I just pat him & then feed him some sunflower as a treat when he gets up to the house.

He is my favourite, i actually like him more than the girls, as he has so much personality. I think it's te fact that he talks so much.

Just treat King Henry with lots of love, which I know you did with Lord Francis & you will have a wonderful rooster looking after your girls. [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif]

Can't wait to see pics of your new crew next month. I think you should name your chook pen "Tudorville" (or something like that), as that was King Henry's Family name.

Thankyou Chicka-Dee

Lord Francis was a fav because of the same thing as Clyde such a talker.
Also like Clyde Lord Francis didn't like being grabbed but after he got used to being held he was ok with that.
Another thing like Clyde I too didn't need to restrain Lord Francis's legs.

when ever I then put him down on the ground it was with great gentleness and then when he was standing on the grond I would move my arm away so he could walk off.

I put Bertha's nesting box and fake eggs into ther part of the men house once while Lord Francis was there just to see what he did

He hopped in scratched round a bit bust into the egg song then proudly hopped out of the nest box,
Then looked around for a reaction from the girls there was none he had to do this three times before one just gave a little attion.

I always have walked slowly round the chookies.

First week I had Lord Francis I didn't go and pick him up but I did after the second week and he was shaking so bad and his comb went a little purple I did try to smooth his nerves, but the times after that he handled it well.
