My girl keeps pooping in her nest box and some of her eggs have copped a decent amount of poo th_Noooo.gif . Will this be a problem when a chick pips. Should I clean the eggs before hatching.

wave.gif Chickababe,

Eggs are porous, so don't wash the pooped on eggs, also they would go cold if they left the nest whilst already in incubation :(

Are you still hand feeding Sage whilst she is sitting?

Maybe she needs to actually hop off and eat and drink so she can also have a toilet break off the nest thinkerg.gif

Hello PP,

Thank you for your advice, I won't wash the eggs. I might just brush over the worst with dry paper towel closer to hatching. Still hand feeding and watering her daily. She "screamed" at me the other day when I took her off her eggs. If I could translate from chook language I'm sure it was obscene  she had a one track mind and that was to get back to her eggs. There was no drinking or eating on the way. She hopped straight back in and with a little wriggle around sat there looking happier. She certainly was grumpy when I lifted her off.

She sure is dedicated. Every day I check for poop and remove it. Oh my goodness it stinks. Still I'm just happy that she seems happy too. 7 days to go and counting chicken4.gif

Thank you SheEggs sorry to hear you found out the hard way about cleaning your eggs. Paper towel might just do the trick if there's a lot of poo.

Depends on who bad the eggs are covered I usually just leave it the the eggs still hatch but if its really bad then yes gently remove some and quickly so they stay warm

Hey Chicka

Don't touch the eggs and don't move her. She will be holding a steady temperature & if you mess with that then you will also find out the hard way.

If she's screaming at you it's because she's saying "don't move me". It's like if you had to sit for 21days straight to ensure you got babies & then a big giant just come along one day and shifted you because she wanted to, you'd scream to. You're messing with Mother Nature hun.

I know exactly how much you want to be involved in the whole process. It nearly drives you to distraction it's so exciting waiting for the little pips to start, but you have to be patient, as good things come to those who wait.

Not long now Chicka, you will be rewarded for being such a good mum to Sage by looking after her while she's going through this process but you need to " not touch".

I'm saying this with the kindest heart, really, as I know where you are sitting right now.

Much luv
Chica-Dee :-D
