What is the best and most efficient heat source.
I currently have 2 brooders, one has a normal old fashioned globe that you cannot buy any more and the other has a small spotlight (40w) the spotlight gives off great heat but is very bright and not very energy efficient.
Are the ceramic ones good and are they energy efficient ?
best place to buy them and what size wattage ?
Thanks :)

60w Ceramic Globes are great and they use little power

Agree with Joh.
They are about as efficient as you can get. I have seen some reports that they don't handle a lot of on/off cycles but I have run one for a long time through a thermostat and it is still going.
If you are prepared to wait they can be had from China on ebay for about $7. Other things you might want to look at are bayonet fitting to E27 adaptors (if needed) about $1 and digtal thermostats about $11.

Do you need a sparky for the thermostat?

I can't give a definite answer on that as I have not had one fail. At a guess mine has had a total of over six months operating time and is probably at least as long lasting as an incandescent globe.
