anyone show muscovys ?

hi gang .
i thought id start a post and see if there are any other mussies exibitors here ?

or if anyone was thinking of showing in the future.

or if anyone was breeding birds for showing in the future

i would love to hear about your birds

im thinking about breeding for show.

i cant show myself or me and the poultry will be finding anew place to live :lol:

there shore is mate . heres what to look for .

the australian poultry standard muscovy

carriage_ low and jaunty

type_ body,broad,deep,very long and powerful. breast full. well rounded and carried low.

keel_ long and well fleshed, just clear of the ground,slightly rounded from stem to stern.

wings_ very strong, long and carried high.

tail_ long and carried low to give the body a longer apperance to the eye and a slightly curved outline to the top of the body.

head_ large ,ardorned with a small crest of feathers {more pronounced in the drake than the duck } which are raised erect in excitement or alarm.

caruncles_ on the face and over the base of the bill.

bill_ wide,strong, of medium length and slightly curved.

eyes_ large with wild or fierce expression.

neck_ of medium length, strong and almost erect.

plumage_ close

handling_ hard, well fleshed, muscular

legs and feet_ legs strong, wide apart and fairly short.

thighs_ short, strong and well fleshed .

feet_ straight , webbed, with pronounced toe nails

hope this helps. showing mussies is great fun . now if you keep whites . pick the biggest pure white drake make shore he dosent have black in the head feathers. or it will spread thrue your birds. pick the biggest nice girls and when you breed them keep the biggest 2 drakes and the biggest 2 ducks and you should have some good show birds . there is a lot of top mussie breeders out there. you know last year the the top 2 prices paid in australia was $700.00 . and $500.00 each . thay were breed by the sydney breeder called peel he has the best bloodlines going . but you can still breed some good birds that will win at ag shows . so get breeding and next time the kilmore shows on you will be showing and winning there? :lol:
