I think we should all write to the government demanding they be banned and any here be put down

Just write to your local member and start an action group to have them banned. There are a lot in backyards so will be hard to track them all down as they are fairly common

I will sign your petition as I hate them and any other feral waterfowl they kill off our own local species and foul up the water ways

Canadian geese are being built up as much more of a threat than they really are.

We have had Canadian Geese kept in Australia for a long time and none have established in the wild.

Occasionally wild ones fly from NZ and authorities have never had trouble killing them.

Dumpyduck where is this lake you have seen them at. :?:

The only species kept here which is a real threat to native species is the Mallard. In NZ they have crossed with their native Black ducks until there are now no pure native Black ducks left. We now have X breds here in the wild and unless more people get out there and kill the wild x breds, our Black Ducks will be gone to in the future as well.

I still do not support the banning of responsibly kept Mallards.

Banning things should be a last resort. It usually only effects the honest and causes the problem to go underground. I think banning the keeping of species such as Canadian geese would increase the price and the number kept and possably encourage people to release them.

Do you mean the ones shot in this part

Quote:
In mid-March, using a rapid response
plan agreed to by various New South Wales government
authorities and the RSPCA, the Game Council of NSW
allowed conservation hunting volunteers to remove
the geese to prevent establishment of the species in
Australia.

They did not establish, they flew from NZ and were easy to shoot. I know the bloke who shot them with his 204.

They are a large obvious species easily eradicated. Groups whose business is invasive animals have to build up threats to justify their funding.

If Dumpy duck could tell us where he has seen them, I'll arrange someone to shoot them to. wave.gif
