Yes and thats the big concern is the deliberate releases of them by misguided people have a look at how many non native ducks are already on our waterways now

The main problem as I see it is the mallards hybridising with the Pacific Black Duck and it's too late to do anything about that situation.
The others are all just domestic breeds released in local ponds/dams which could be easily eradicated if the local councils or wildlife authorities had the inclination to do so.

I don't think there has been any issues with any other exotic species becoming established or hybridizing, unless you know any differently.

The point is if they were not here in the first place then there would be no risk to our waterfowl. Also these foreign invaders drive our native birds out and must be stoped at all cost

Quote: Many native birds are driven from their usual haunts by the introduction and acclimatization of both foreign birds and mammals

http://australianmuseum.net.au/Uploads/ ... mplete.pdf

We don't need these foreign invaders here as our own native fowls are more than beautiful

I will NEVER be convinced otherwise

Fair enough, you are after all entitled to your opinion.

But are you seriously quoting a publication that's over 110 years old??

Quote me something more relevant to todays' situation, or at least that reviews the impact since the arrival of white man.

You still haven't given me evidence of a single example of where introduced fowl are disadvantaging native species, except for the mallard/black duck example that I mentioned earlier.

Please stop questioning my seriousness YES I am very serious if we had the brains to listen back then we would not have half the issues of today.

The fact that mallard is a BIG problem everyware is your proof that any foreign waterfowl can and will become a problem here look in other counties

No one is questioning your seriousness Onesducks, merely the evidence to back up your argument.
Quoting Hawaiian examples of species not in Australia is hardly relevant.

I have already conceded the black duck/mallard case- totally agree. But there is no other species where this is the case. That's my point. If they were a threat they would already have formed feral populations.

Don't get me wrong. No one wants feral populations in Australia. We already have examples in other species as you mentioned, even native species introduced into other parts of Australia have caused problems eg Rainbow lorikeets introduced into WA.

But to just call for the blanket eradication of all exotic species in captivity because they might form feral populations when there is no evidence that they do is hardly fair either.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. That is the beauty of a forum such as this- everyone is able to express their view and the topics can be discussed. Everyone can make up their own mind.

Hope I haven't upset you too much- that wasn't my intention.

Happy Duck-keeping :-D

I think people should be able to have them securely caged but if they are found on lakes ect then they must be shot on sight no questions asked.
