these are not rouens but might interest those who enjoy colour breeding,,,, Rouen Clairs in blue
can be seen here
http://rnbswaterfowl.com.au/our-birds/

introducing blue is really easy,,we'd use a different breed than suggested above,,although the above suggestion will work,,we could do it quicker using something else

looking at the different variations they come in and would like to find out more information on them and what is readily available in colours and sizes such as if there is a bantam rouen?

I have seen the pictures of
Pastel Rouen
Blue Rouen
http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Duck ... ouens.html

Are there more colours?

Mike,,if you havent already get yourself a copy of the standard..there is no bantam version of this breed,,but the same colouring can be found in other breeds
Rouen as a breed is defined by its size and TYPE,,theoretically you can have all sorts of colours if your willing to put in the time and breed them
current std recognises the standard colouring ( dark phase wild type ) and the white and both those colours are avalible in Aust.
we currently dont know of any blue Rouen in Aust,,but suspect someones on to it by now and has them underway
to get the Pastel you first need to produce the blue
black would/is easy to produce and we have friends with these

the feathersite link you posted has a few errors,,all birds pictured are under the title Rouen,,but there are a few Rouen clairs in the mix, you need to be able to pick the 2 apart,,they are completely different in type(shape of body), the colouring in the RC male is lighter (the RC is a light phase coloured bird,,the Rouen is a dark phase coloured bird) female ground colour in the RC is also lighter than the dark phase Rouen female and the RC female has single chevron markings as opposed to the double chevron of the Rouen,,have a look back through the pics in that link and you should see a few differences in the breeds, RC males also have a white stern, quality Rouen should not

thanks and thanks [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif] although we prefer the std Rouen Clair....the blues are pretty though and we'll be hatching a few more this year...web site needs an update,we have better birds than pictured

Good to see accurate information on the rouen and rouen clairs many make the mistake of calling them all rouen but many of us know its not the case

In America they have Black, Blue, Fawn, and Pastel varieties and as mackay ducks wrote we can too with a little effort If you do then start with the blue gene and from that will come your fawn shades

Will it looks like you can get a natural black rouen duck.If you breed the darkest of dark phase wild type colour. You will get 1:12 duckling that are black. And yes my rouens are pure breds, and they have a family tree here in Australia.

I better put a pic here. This black Rouen is 3 months old in the pic ,it's alot bigger now.I am keeping to ducks with better laceing from the same batch as this black one.So I can put the ducks over a drake that carry the lighter wild type colour, the drake I will get will be from a breeder from Vic(no name's)But I think alot of you that are reading this know who I'm taking about. And what i'm tring to do.....Which is to breed a bloody nice duck for showing. dd66789

What I been told is that some Rouen lines are good breeders and some are not.I'm very luck with my line.98%fertile and I was counting egg numbers about 4 months ago.65 eggs then. And she is still laying.Must be over 100 eggs by now.
