Hi all,
I recently aquired a couple (hopefully pair) of Geese. I have tried to find out what breed they are from pictures and information on the net without success. They were originally sold to the person I got them off as Pomeranian. The closest I can come from pictures is a Greylag.
Any information would be great.

If I can figure out how to shrink a pic and add it I will.

Adam

Yep pomeranian geese, the pomeranian is the descendant of the greylag

Oh nice. Are Pomeranians a common breed? And is there a way to sex them aside from vent sexing?
I have a lot of other poultry but this is my first foray into geese.

Cheers
Adam

You need to vent sex them, that is the only sure way. Yes Pomeranians are common and a nice breed

Fallax...if your in Aust... the only pomeranian breed standardiazed is the pied version..not many of these about.
the grey and white are not recognised..and offen its a case of people creatively giving birds that dont meet the standard requirements for other breeds nice names..

but,,,if think they meet the standard for the grey pomm,,and they breed true and produce young that meet the standard also..then you may well be entiled to call them grey pomms.

bill colour would be a critical factor when considering this,,,grey pomm std asks for bill colour>>pink to orange red...along with single lobed undercarriage..
i cant see the lower rear end of one of the birds properly, but the one i can see doesnt met these basic requirements.

and should wiegh 8.2-10.9kg for ganders and the goose 7.3-9.91kg..

i think you titled the thread correctly,,and have yourself a nice pair of common grey farm geese.

RnBs, your post is I assume just referring to the APS? or are you suggesting there are no Pommerngans other than saddleback [what you call pied] in Australia? Did I read your post correctly?
