Stuart, they still breed all be it poorly compared to the non commercial breeds because they are a large table fowl they are also not good brooders

Rouens are a fatty duck typical for a Commercia duck breed and thats not good when you want good breeding results or mothering skills

I agree they should be last on the list of backyard duck breeds not suitable other than eating

I think thats why I have seen several dumped at lakes as people think they are farm ducks or a home breed but realise they are a commercial fowl

Foxes will take care of them as they can't fly well so easy pickings, people should just eat them rather than dumping them we don't need foreign commercial ducks on our waterways

Here we like the faty meat of the rouen makes for a nice flavor some other industry ducks lack the taste the rouen has and the fat is all important there

I think most here prefer the muscovy with less fat but many countries still eat the commercial rouen duck

Quote= The British managed to double the size of the bird, improve its colouration, and add bulk, giving it a more "boat-like" aspect. It was used chiefly as a roasting bird.

We have to remember that rouen ducks are giant mallards they are the wild mallard duck enlarged by domestication and high feeding for the table. I call them obese mallards I think thats a more accurate name as thats what they are
