Hi everyone

I have some questions regarding Exotic Breeds of waterfowl and i was hoping some of the large breeders here would be able to answer my questions.

I am familiar with the common domesticated duck breeds and have had a lot of success breeding Muscovies.
I am interested in some of the more exotic breeds like whistling ducks, Scaup Ducks and Chestnut Teals but i don't really know anything about exotic waterfowl. Do you need a license to keep some of the varieties of exotic waterfowl?
Are there any good websites where i can see different breeds?
And just general things about different breeds of Exotic and Native Waterfowl?

Regards
Rhys

Native species you need a licence such as whistlers and foreign species such as mandarins you don't. Theres no oz web site that I know of with a good variety but you can look up on google for overseas sites

Thanks for the reply Weston

Is the license similiar to a finch or reptile one where there is different stages or is it once you get a license you can breed any native waterfowl?

What breeds would you guys suggest for a beginner with Exotic Waterfowl?

Depends on the state you live in but yes similar to other licences and its an annual licence. The best breed in that category is the Mandarin its cheap and easy enough to breed and it looks great

Another question: Are there any Ruddy Shell breeders on this forum? I know a bloke who has a 12 year old duck and has had no success finding a drake.

Mandarin Ducks are what I plan to start with :-D
Geeseongrass I thought the Black East Indies was classed as a domesticated breed.
Are there any Ruddy Shell Duck breeders on here?

The BEI are still considered an exotic as they are not as common as many others
