Question for the duck experts I am about to buy 13 dusky decoy call ducks and not knowing much about the genetics can someone clarify the gene for dusky is dominate to the wild type colour or is it recessive to the wild type colour. I have been told by very reputable duck breeders the dusky is dominant to wild type colour but can you experts confirm that please. I searched the internet and came up empty |

Just watch the dusky colouring in decoys its very poor and very inconsistent unlike in the mallards so don't get your hopes up to high for good quality |

Dusky is /md and its recessive. The colour in decoys is the worst in the dusky colour basically from poor pairings and lack of knowledge so I hope you can work on them as a specialist which would make you the first in Oz |

Thanks for all the advice I picked them up and they are settling in. The colours not the best as you all pointed out but as they were a good price at $130 the lot I thought I would give them a try. Do you think I should leave the 13 together or split them up into pairs? |

You can only work with what you have and with the fact there are no decent decoy call ducks in australia then thats all you can do. |
