Post subject:  chinese goose slight and sore one month after hatching chick

Hi all
Our chinese goose was on and off here nest for a month before finally sitting and hatched a single chick. She came off her nest with a very sore leg and limped around. One month later (she did seem to get better for a bit) and her leg is sudenly worse today. She has gained very little weight if any and looks thin on feathers. She is eating grass and has some wheat at night and also scoffs the chick starter. The 2 boys with her let her eat her fill before they finish the rest.
I am worried about her leg and her loss of weight.
I saw her do a clear watery pooh this morning.
Cheers

Its poor blood circulation and you need to increase the vitB in the diet to stop it

Hi Dennis
I'll google it but any ideas how to increase the vit B?
Thanks for the reply
2 days on her tummy and i'm picking her up and moving her to feed on grass.
She did jump up this arvo and get back to her pen though, definately better in the arvo's than in the mornings.

Niacin/vit b3 is in brewer's yeast, i only have instant yeast so will give that a try.

Went to the poultry place, duck starter contained no niacin or b3. The only thing that contained these were some super duper chook laying pellets. I'll crush some up and see if i can tempt the geese to have some tonight, although they normally don't do chook pellets.
I also obtained some brewers yeast (although in tablet form) and will crush this up also and try to feed her.
She is mainly on her tummy all today although gets up and moves before i can pick her up.
