Well the funniest thing happened today and even when I think about it now it makes me smile. A couple of days ago I accidently lifted the nesting box lid to check for eggs and interrupted Cara-Mel as well as Babs a little later in the day, well didn't they let me know how upset they were (they sounded like roosters). Since then I haven't been getting any eggs from either of them, or so I thought. Today I heard a little noise coming from under the Rosemary bush near our back steps, I look around to see Cara-Mel step out from under it. So I go and check to see what's going on only to find 5 eggs sitting in there the little rascals have found a new place to lay. I have to say I don't mind and have since apologised to them for asking them to hop up in the nesting box and lay me an egg. I do love my girls they crack me up every day. I have since removed said eggs from under the bush hoping they go back to the proper nesting box. |

That is funny LittleMissHen My girls have, luckily for me, gotten use to me lifting the lid in search for my breakfast. The only one who cracks up at me now is Clara (my speckled sussex) when she's going clucky. When my girls start to lay in places where I don't want them to, I place something in the spot to discourage them or change the spot so it's less comfy. Cheers Chicka-Dee |

Thankyou all for your stories about your gorgeous girls, I never thought having backyard chickens would be so entertaining, my girls have now decided to lay their eggs in the downstairs nesting box that I made for them so they must have forgiven me to some extent. I love this forum so many good tips and information on how to keep your hens happy. |
