I have a passion fruit vine that has grown inside the chickens coop recently and I noticed yesterday they were starting to peck at the green fruit now I do not know if they are ok for them when they are green like that. Also will it affect the eggs if they eat a few ripe ones also as the drop inside the coop?

I,d say no based on the fact that wild birds mainly cockatoos eat them when green and also ripe. Its also the birds who spread of seed in the bush from which the wild passionfruit grow.
I have passionfruit vines growing around my pen and hope this summer they will spread over the wire to provide shade.

Ok thank you for the help, do you think they would tarnish the taste of the eggs?

Thats interesting because none of my chooks will touch passionfruit unless its very ripe and splits open they definantly dont eat the green fruit

wave.gif hi peeps, my first post here...

I used to grow strawberries commercially and one day we had new picker who bruised fruit badly. So as it couldnt be marketed I gave it to the laying chooks.

Few days later we had PINK boiled eggs for breakfast.
Don't know if they tasted of strawberry cos the vivid pink turned us off [smilie=a_rolling.gif]

Needless to say chooks enjoyed their strawberry afternoon tea.

With a large orchid and free range hens they can eat any and all fallen fruit and they are very healthy and yes on occasion some eggs are red or have a taste of fruit but that adds to the flavor
