I've just had a visit from animal officers from Sunshine Coast Council. They are still operating under old Caloundra City Council by-laws even though the amalgamated council has been around for 9 months.

when I first put chooks in I got all the info from council about where the coop should go and where runs could go etc etc
We had a council officer come visit for another matter and I asked them to check the coop and run - everything was grand.

Now my junkie neoghbours have had a whinge about me having chickens. (I had to call the cops yet again when another woman was being beaten in their regular friday night fight night so this is retribution)

The Caloundra city by-law the animal officers brought around only mentions an enclosure and doesn't state there must be a chook house - all you need is a fenced area with 1 square metre for each bird. They now claim the run should be 2m from the fence, not the chicken coop as I was originally told.

The Sunshine Coast Council has a different by-law - - you need a chook house and it should be a metre from the fence and there's no restriction on chook runs.

So are there any other caloundra city residents out there? What are your understanding of the by-laws?

Any sunnycoast chook keepers - - what by-laws do you operate under?

I'm still going by the old Noosa Council by-laws - 9m from the house. I probably should investigate it further

I went on-line and downloaded the chook house rules from my council here in South Australia. They put them up, so they will have to stand by what they wrote, is how I see it.

Your neighbours are fighting a war against themselves. In Australia these days, we are forced to remain mute and let it happen, making sure to preserve your border lines only. If women like them like men like those, let the silly buggers cop it sweet. Turn your TV up a bit and don't look. I do feel sorry for you. We complained a 400 watt disco going daily for hours, and so the cops came out to our house first to chat with us. Yes the neighbour saw them, but not before he deafened the cops. His gear can now be confiscated if he re-offends with it. He now doesn't like me.

So true, I once had neighbors like that and had to leave in the end. I hope they move out and leave you in peace :-D

Get an outdoor speaker that looks like a rock and secretly place close to property line where it will not be noticeable. Just when you think they are about asleep turn it on real loud, Leave on for a minute and turn it off. Repeat often. Pay back.

It is no good to move out, unless that is what you intended to do in the first place. No matter where you go, they will move in and multiply unless we do something about them. See how your laws are fixed these days for disturbing the peace and so on. Another neighbour has had his music turned off here, but the complainant was warned that the matter could go to court, and was he prepared to do that. His answer was yes, he was prepared to go to court. The police acted immediately, no more music heard. (DOOF DOOF is not music really).

Caloundra City Council rules state that the enclosure must be a minimum of 1 square metre per bird and must be 2m from a fence line

there is nothing in the rules for hen house/chicken coop. when the council inspectors came out they said all they were interested in was the run - that's what they call an enclosure and it mus be 2m from the fence line - not running along the back fence.

So it's rebuilding the chicken run this week to comply with council rules of a council that no longer exists. the amalgamated council hasn't bothered changing any by-laws. I think they intend to revert to three councils some time in the future and not getting rid of the old laws will mean reverting to three councils will be easier.

and trying to contact a councilor about this is impossible - they don't have email addresses, don't have a direct line to their office and any mail is replied to by the same people who think the old law is a good law.

Any other councils anywhere else in Oz only interested in the chook run and not the housing??

There is a way that council members can be confronted. You attend all meetings that are open to you. You prepare your questions and statements on paper, then attend the meeting and give it to them. They will be most annoyed at you for disturbing their peaceful east way of life. The trouble with us all is, not many of us attend these meetings, allowing the councilors to do what they want to do unrivaled.

Get a Roo that will give them something to complain about. When the council inspector shows up don't let him on the property. And say you don't have a roo. It will take a couple of weeks before they give notice in writing to inspect. So when they show up there is no rooster. They go away. Then the roo comes back and it starts again.
Gess how will move first

Always deny, even when your caught red handed.

They do all have individual email addresses and phone numbers. Depending if you are in Division 1 or 2 it would be either Anna Grosskreutz or Tim Dwyer. Details here
http://www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/sit ... or-details

Email addresses are firstname.lastname@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au

Good luck!
