I just looked in GG and there is reference to Margaret in S.A that bred them first and named them silver after her new silver zephyr which was a car way back then, before my time.

Yes the decades old breeding book from MT shows that she definitely named them Silver and she got it right as they are silver not strawberry eyed lavender like the dummies think.

If some one inexperienced wants to make claims of the makeup of silver is the 3 genes of cinnamon, lavender and silver then prove it by way of a qualified genesis and a study with gene testing not by buying eggs and hatching them or by having a couple of pairs and home breeding to reach an armature conclusion or by searching the internet for duck genes. In other words 'put up or shut up'

Good post Oz a_bravo.gif a_bravo.gif It won't be proved because it can't its all just a pie in the sky crap

Okay.
So when you breed a cinnamon to a lavendar, none of the offsping carry the lavendar gene.
I understand they wouldn't be visibly lavendar, what happens to the lavendar gene?

As you know Carlise we have had this conversation many times but again

Cinnamon x lavender = (C) (i+/c+s) --- (H) (c+s) What most overlook especially these know it all newcomers with 5 minutes experience is phenotype V genotype and which is which with cinnamon and silver thats the important factor and they don't know because it won't come up in a google search ;)

One of these days I might get a handle on this.

I was expecting that
Cinnamon x lavender would = (C) (/c+si+) (Pearl split for both lavender and cinnamon) --- (H) (c+s/i+) (Cinnamon split for lavender)

Live and learn

Why would you expect Pearl??? and no such thing as a cinnamon split for lavender. [smilie=a_holycrap.gif] [smilie=a_holycrap.gif]

Those breeding books are so old but they are in good hand with PA. Maybe we should rename the silver the "Margaret Silver" it tribute to the original breeder and namer of the silver a_bravo.gif I don't think PA would mind the new silver DE being called the "Margaret Silver DE" or "Margaret Silver PA-DE"

Cinnamon being sexlinked, lavender being recessive. Wouldn't the male offspring get one gene for cinnamon and one for lavender, so wouldn't be visually cinnamon or lavender, so that leaves pearl. That was my thinking.

Why doesn't the lavender hen pass one lavender gene onto the female offspring?

I only have 1 cinnamon so far but he mated with the lavender female that had some pied she had a few eggs but only 2 hatched and they were both the lavender colour and only 1 had the pied both are males by the looks of their big lobs under the chin

[smilie=welcome.gif] Daza your results are as expected with guinea fowl the lavender gene is expressed over the cinnamon gene in phenotype add to your pairing the incomplete dominant and you see pied. Its likely both are pieds if you look closely especially on the belly area down between the legs.

Hi Ace
Look it up where?
I thought this forum contained all the information. Maybe I am not seeing it, but I can't see any search function on the forum. Otherwise I would have searched for it on this forum.

Edit by Mod, stay on topic please. Tech questions go in the tech area please.
