Advice: Don't get King Quails. The name doesn't match the size.

What's the situtation of the captive (domestic) Brown and Stubble Quails in Australia?

Thanks

Frank

Hi Paul,
I haven't bred Japs, but kept two trios for their eggs. They were good meat birds too. Be prepared to be woken early if you keep a cock near your window. They were more frequent layers than my Isa Brown or Australorp chooks. Jap quail eggs are a reasonable size, and have creamy yolks. They only needed a small space, I rigged up an on demand feeder from an old soft drink bottle (see elsewhere on this site for references), and used a chicken waterer. I have read that it's hard to get Japs to sit, broodiness tends to have been bred out, so make sure you have some good clean nesting material and a place for them to nest.
