I'm not talking about cutting them off at the base just trimming them. Give it a try, get your angle grinder out and give yourself a pedicure, great for those tough old toe nails.

I took an angle grinder to my thumb last year, it did a surprisingly good job of cauterising the wound.

One of our bantam rooster (Silkie cross) had extrememly long spurs and it was interfering with him walking - we used pet nail clippers to trim them down enough that they were no longer catching each other but not far enough that it bled. Didn't seem to bother him and he walks much better now!

Actually, come to think of it, I think my husband had to use side cutters as they were too thick :oops:

With an angle grinder it's just a case of someone holding the rooster and leg and the other person operating the grinder. Use a metal or stone cutting disc to cut the spur to the length you want. Use safety glasses.
I prefer to use a bench grinder myself, a 150mm or 200mm is the best as they have the power. You can do this with one person and you won't have the OH screaming at you to mind her fingers and other body parts when using an angle grinder

Hold the rooster under one arm and the leg in the other hand and place the tip of the spur on the face of the wheel, we are grinding, not cutting. Apply pressure and take it down to where you want, this only takes seconds per spur, is nice and easy and less dangerous. Both methods cauterise if the quick is hit.

some people i know use a dremel, which is apparently a small angle grinder like contraption, that is easier to use when there is only one person holding the rooster.

I was looking for this information to do my rooster that has very large spurs that need cutting desperately so thanks answering before I even asked
