you train them, I got my rooster to sit.. :lol:

what you do is youput your hand on their back and keep doing it so they sit, as they grow up and bond with you and like you they'll soon get used to you and sit at a tap of your finger... My rooster was the best trained thing in the world..
he would respond to his name, then come running to me.. or yell out at me to tell me he is too lazy to get up out of his lovely dust bathe...
he would sit when tapped.. (as I said before)
he knew when I came home from school and yelled out if I forgot to unlock him

he knew when I was angry at him for hurting the chooks each time he mounted them!!! :lol:

he told the chooks to get out and eat.. mine are the laziest things now...
early training is the key !!! (although you probably shouldn't try) I toilet trained Coco to not poo on me!!! he would squirm and hop off me if he wanted to...

ahhh, the memories!!!

Train your hens and they will reward you!!!

Bluey has lovely muffs! Looking forward to seeing photos of your blue eggs when they come!

Do your chookies live indoors with you? Do they wear chook nappies and or how do you train them not to poop in doors especially on the couch?

Our chickens seem to be well behaved, I guess you could say we train them. We simply put our hand on their back and pat them. When we walk up to Bluey now, put our hand out, Bluey actually bobs down.

Our chooks live ourdoors. They have their own chicken coop and run area.

But we have a covered deck area outside and there is an old couch which they seem to like. So far no nappies needed, if we pat their back they will sit on that couch for about 5 or 10 minutes before they walk back to their coop. Toozies occurs on their walk back to their coop. :lol:

Yesterday Bluey gave her first egg. It was only 30 grams. No egg today so waiting to see how big the next egg will be.

Here is a photo of the first egg from Bluey. Its is the egg on the left. On the right is a store bought egg at about 55 grams.

This second photo shows the colour of the egg a bit better, its on the right this time.

The egg on the left is actually Gingers egg from today. Next time I'm asked "how many eggs with your bacon?
I will have to ask, "From which chicken?". [smilie=a_rolling.gif]

That is so cool that your girls will just sit there. And they look so content as well.

You will have to show us picys of your coop next, which I can see a little of in the background shot of the girls foraging there.

Nice little blue egg too, you must be very proud of Bluey.

Im starting to like the look of Araucanas, as i wasn't a fan at all to start with. But PP has started winning me over with The Pretty One so thanks for sharing Big_Natty.

I will put up some photos of our coop the moment I am able to take some photos.

On another topic, we are finding that the chickens are preparing nesting box 1 2 or 3 but all seem to then move to the 4th nexting box area and lay their egg there. They don't seem to prepare the 4th nesting box they just lay the egg and then move on. Is that normal chicken behaviour or do they just randomly pick a nesting box.

It seems our chickens like nesting box 4 to lay their egg.

On another topic the following three chickens are laying eggs.
Silkie (Silky) (1 egg so far)
Bluey (Lavender Aruacana) (3 eggs so far)
Ginger (Isa Brown) (34 eggs, but who's counting)

These two are still to lay their first egg.
Rosa (Rhode Island Red),
Big Natty (Light Sussex).

We hope Big Natty lays a big one.

Okay,

So I have taken total inspiration from you and started to train my only baby pullet to sit and stay. So far she will sit there for about 2 minutes before deciding to get up and start to move around again.

She looks so cute just sitting there looking at me take a photo of her :lol:

Its not so much training but luck so far. We have a covered deck area outside and there is an old couch. We don't mind if this couch falls victim to a chooky poopy.

Chicka-Dee, 2 minutes is pretty good. After a while Ebony will sit there for 5 minutes or so which will give you plenty of time to take photos.
But remember, not on the good couch. hide:
