Thanks everyone. I don't blame the dog (although he is seeking a home - poultry and small animal free, of course- just really miss my sweet chookies! The good news I have is that I went to check the remaining hen today, and she had a lovely lavender chick under her (plus two crushed chicks that had half-hatched). I have brought that chick inside as I have already lost one to rats. This chick is named Deccy, in memory of my lovely avatar boy (his/her dad)!

Only thing is that I usually vaccinate for Marek's, and now have this precious little chickie here that can't be vaccinated easily. I might see if one of the vets can do it for me (have had some luck with this in the past).

And b&p - despite my horrible experiences, sighthounds remain my favourite type of dog. Salukis are astonishingly gorgeous - although I understand if you don't agree with that just now. My greyhound will certainly kill anything that flies into her yard, but won't actively hunt things down in their own beds and certainly won't rip through wire netting to get at anything. I do have a cattledog pup here who isn't above suspicion, but I am just doing my best to keep everything safe at the moment.

Deb :)

I don't blame Demi at all Deb.

She was just doing what comes natural,I just can't afford for my Borzoi X to learn how to hunt so she has to go.

Viggo has never killed anything and I want to keep it that way....he is certainly big enough and strong enough to kill one of the geese but he steers well clear of most of the birds.

Demi has only been here a few months and it is such a shame because in every other aspect she is amazing....great with small dogs,house-trained,quiet,calm and gentle.

Am hoping we have already found a good home for her with another sighthound lover who has whippets and pugs.

I'll miss her thats for sure but just can't trust her at all now.

And I'll always be a sighthound lover...had whippets years ago and always tell people to look at getting a greyhound if they are looking for a couch potato in their dog.
