Yolk Colour

breaky is over. thought i'd post the pictures anyways even without a response...lol was interesting to observe (sort of. as interesting as cooking breakfast can be anyways!)

So the first photo is 5 eggs freshly cracked in the pan 4 of the eggs are from my chickens 1 is a shop egg. guess which one...LOL

Then only about 30 seconds later my chicken eggs are still cooking...... sizzling away... shop egg was drying out and cooking through already. due to the whites of the shop egg not being fresh and spreading over the pan. so yolk was not surrounded by the gooey white bit.
By the time my chicken eggs were done and nicely cook. Whites cooked through but yolk still completely runny. The shop egg was well overly cooked. not runny at all and quite rubbery! that egg didn't get eaten...LOL, don't blame them.

Forgot to take a final finished cooking photo... was too hungry to remember to take a final shot... oh well...lol.

if you didnt figure it out the far egg at the back of the pan and photo is the shop egg.

front 4 are my hens eggs.

The duck egg looks EXACTLY the colour of my chickens usual eggs.
Vibrant yellow.

sometimes they go slightly darker (like in the photos), but still very yellow.

My photos weren't in the greatest light but you get the general idea. And the colour of the yolk was pretty true. the white look tinged yellow in the photo but they are not that tinged really. They are actually quite clear with the SLIGHTEST tinge of i guess you can say yellow.

Sebducks, those yolks look beautiful, and they're from free rangers too. I'd call them rich yellow, not orange like some. If more people kept chooks and grew their own eggs they'd know the normal colour variations. Those yolks are packed with more vitamins and goodness than any shop bought one.

BFLF, I'm sooo hungry now after seeing those in the pan. The colour is perfect. The one at the back looks a bit strange to me. Yes, I think you get used to the colour you have, and you know they're from healthy happy chooks so they're the best. I've only taken money for one dozen so far as a contribution toward feed, and that will only be from friends and family like you. Thanks for showing us your yummy egg breakfast.

I'll photograph a couple of mine next time I eat some. Last night's tea was 10 devilled eggs, so there'll be no more eggs eaten tonight.

My girls eat a lot of corn, grated carrot and mashed pumpkin, and lots of dark green leaf veggies hence their egg yolk colour.

Egg yolk colour definately depends on what the chooks eat.

Here are the first eggs in the pan that my girls laid.

Now we're getting a real collection of different yolk colours here. Is it a tradition for proud owners to photograph their eggs in the frypan? I really must do it too. It shows yolk colour, freshness in the whites, and it makes them look so very delicious.

It's interesting that the colour is different for the two of your eggs PP, even though they are fed the same feed. Maybe there are some colour differences with different breeds, or maybe its to do with individual hen preferences in feed and the amounts they each eat of corn and yellow feed.

Hi, Brownie,

It would be interesting to take a photo of your egg yolks before and after you start with the corn and compare the difference.

Don't think the breed of the chook makes any difference in egg yolk colour variation, possibly the Alpha hen may eat more corn than the others?

More Devilled Eggs, yum! I'll go out and see if those egg plates are still in the Opp Shop.

I'll take a photo of both girl's eggs together in the pan to compare their yolks.

It is also worth noting that what is fed to hens can change the colour of their legs also, not particularly a problem when just a layer girl but not much good when showing. ie, corn yellows legs in birds that shouldn't have yellow legs.
