Similiar to the topic but a little to left feild.
I Breed Large Modern Game.
Now my stock are pure Large Moderns, but alot of the time Im up against birds that have Austalian Game in there Blood which makes them look course and Lack the overall Styling to be really called Large Modern but alas the Judges see how tall they are and give the 1/2 breeds the first prize.
Im slowly working on mine getting the size into them but it takes time and patience and a large Volume of food.

PS I too know who this would be taking about Re Pekins in Rainbow colours

Seems to be a problem in a wide variety of breeds but yes I have noticed it in the breeds mentioned here. I don't bother with the creation of new colours as I just don't have the time but I would hope that those involved do dispose of the crosses and mixed colours along the way and don't let them get out into unsuspecting back yards

Ok so I see quite a few people need to have their faith in pekin breeders restored!

I too have seen many, many times breeders who cross their colours, but keep in mind that some colours in pekins need to have another colour crossed into them eventually to keep their colour correct eg cuckoo's.

Now I am the proud owner of a black line of pekins that breed all blacks and have done so for 10 years! I am not an OLDIE either lol I do have to thank the lovely lady whom I first purchased stock from as she is also a breeder who does not cross her colours! It had nothing to do with luck & fluking this line of birds, but everything to do with research & gettting to know the breeders & their birds before purchasing!

It's not hard to find breeders out there in the chook world who breed black to black, white to white, buff to buff etc all you have to do is pull on ur investigators hat & you will soon find what you need

Now this next paragraph may not make sense at first so please read it over a few times if needs be as my thought are running at a million mile an hour and are tumbling out at an alarming rate - - - -

Victorian Fowl - of course 99% of ‘them’ sell the 'shite' as some sort of mythical magical wonderful colour appropriately named by the 'breeder' for what they 'look' like – irrespective of the fact that they HAVE NOT spent many many years selectively breeding to get the colour AND type set then spending the next FIVE years – yeah you heard right FIVE count them FIVE years doing the necessary ‘proof’ breeding to ensure they breed true for the required minimum of FOUR years [ again count them - FOUR years which actually means the FIFTH generation breeding true is the one you can sell ] BEFORE selling this mythical magical wonderful colour AND along the way in their greed for a name of ‘some description’ doing such harm and in some cases irreparable harm to the breed in question – the Pekin is the original case in question here but all other breeds must be included in this conversation [perhaps add ‘other breeds too’ to the title???] = bit presumptuous of me

seriously tho folks - how many of you can ‘frustratingly’ name at least FIVE that do this – personally I can name over a dozen excluding some on this forum that ACTUALLY say the birds being sold are cross bred = compliments to their honesty and my respect is given freely to these

NOW – this post is fantastic as it brings to the fore THIS subject of ‘what the hell is that that hatched” actually this could be a good title presumptuous again
I tire of the phone calls and emails asking me what I think of this or that colour/breed they have just bought or more often of the chicks that have hatched - only to have to say - "Sorry but I cant comment about what another breeder is doing or selling as it is unethical to do so" = remember this folks – one must not comment in the derogatory regards another breeder as it CAN land them in court – this regardless of the fact I would LOVE to say something about a certain few!!!

Ok = I am now going to read back this entire post and spend a bit of time answering various things as best I can with my limited knowledge – will ask a few questions if needed and come back and post it later –
Remember patience is a virtue – especially when waiting on a dinosaur to answer

Shouldn't have to put on a hat to find true breeding stock it's up to the breed to tell the buyer what he or she is buying. Although I don't have pure bred I do understand were they're coming from.

Unfortunately these days, you do need to do a lil more researching to find true breeding stock, alot of purists these days offer limited stock or dont advertise due to maybe theft. Alot comes down to not what you know but maybe who you know and they can point you in the right direction.

Its more about buying a colour that breeds a colour I think that’s the point of this topic someone not needing to find a breed but one who has found one and brought some pekins that were supposed to be buff and nothing but buff but bred a whole heap if colour but what they were supposed too, that’s the point

Well sometimes it's up to the buyer to be clear in what the want!
If they want something that breeds true to colour then it doesnt hurt to specify that before purchase & these days it also doesnt hurt to do your research on a particular breeder or line of fowl before buying just to make sure you are getting what you want, unfortunately there are some dishonest breeders out there.
I know if I was to spend big money on birds then I would try my hardest to make sure I was getting what i wanted & not be getting surprises at hatching time!

It is not hard to find lines of fowl that breed true to colour all you have to do is ask the questions & BANG like magic you can see everything you want!

p.s I would hope people also look for type in a bird because colour is not everything, it's only the paintwork that finishes a bird off!

But the paintwork can be so important in some breeds eg cockeral breeders and pullet breeders in wyandottes
