Good point grasshopper, there are also ckl & pullet breeders in black pekins, I am just saying it seems to me that too many people have too much focus these days on colours and the type or conformation of a fowl is being forgotten.

Yes that is true too but like I said if you do your research on a particular breeder or line of fowls you generally will have a good shot at getting what you want. Sometimes it doesnt hurt to take the lead & go out & find what you are looking for, if you want it bad enough then surely it's worth the little bit of extra time & investigating that it takes to find it!
It's a shame there are a few unreliable breeders out there who give the rest of the pekin world a bad reputation! There are still many good pekin breeders out there who are willing to help with good birds

I too think there are many good pekin breeders out there but I also admit there are a few not so good ones that if you buy from you could be buying a pekin that is carrying who knows what and will produce who knows what. Mixing all different breeds together in the slim hope of producing a new colour is in my view a cardinal sin.

It s a matter of buyer beware, my advice is not to buy from a breeder that mixes their breeds together so when you turn up to their house and if you see pekins in with something like sebrights or indian game or silkies ect..ect..ect.. Just say thanks but no thanks.

That is good advice Nambour and its a wonderful topic that highlights a problem that usually goes un said.

I’m so pleased that I chose this forum. The knowledge, experience and the high quality breeders here and of course the thought inspiring discussions that get posted here are not available or allowed anywhere else it would seem.

I am relatively new to poultry so I don't claim to be an expert but it appears that many poultry enthusiasts are hung up on creating new colours. Sure there is a place for this within poultry but I think there is also a place for keeping the old breeds and colours true. Wow so much great info coming out, I 200% agree with Drew and I think there is nothing worse than "mongrel pekins" avoiding breeders with these birds is the advice I give out all the time especially to new breeders. I know what you mean about the millefleur pekins I have seen some shocker photos of mongrel looking pekins being passed off as millefleur pekins.

Good to have a mature discussion about this problem
