Thats interesting study there I have not quite read it all but enjoyed it so far 2 Drakes

As caladenia has not answered and I doubt ever will, I will for her. Silkies do not ALWAYS have black skin and in the case of albinism that is very logical. So to answer 2 Drakes question to Caladenia as Caladenia refused to do so interesting that, the pekin chick pictured could have silkie blood and yes it can be high or low % and NOT have dark or black skin this is 1st year basic genetic knowledge. Also Caladenia did not breed the chick so she would not know its purity and very unlikely the sender of the egg would know either being how they confess to mix breed.

It would be interesting to know if there are any breeding pairs out there in any chicken breed that have survived to maturity and bred true

I agree it is an interesting study
And I also think it would be good to know if any birds from any breed has survived to reproduce

there are at least four genes (or gene combinations ) which produce albinism. 3 are autosomal, while the fourth is sex linked.

From the study above....

Three types of albinism at the C locus have been reported
in the chicken, e.g., red-eye white (cre), recessive
white (c), and autosomal albino (ca) (Brumbaugh et al.,
1983). Thus, the chicken C locus is a multiple allelic locus.
According to Smyth et al. (1990), the most dominant allele
is wild type (C+), with strong pigmentation, and the most
recessive is autosomal albino (ca) showing complete lack
of pigmentation

I hatched an albino leghorn chicks only 1 and its eyes were so bright red he lived for 3 weeks but never looked right and he died. I wonder if there rarely live as they are genetically mix up?
