Hi there new to the forum

I have a breeding question on the safety of chicks in the coop. I have 1 small game bantam that has 7 eggs under her and I think should have chicks any day now so I have been thinking if it is safe for the chicks to be with all the other hens and dad rooster in the coop or would my best action be to take mum and the chicks out after the arrive into the world.

I had a similar situation with a broody crisis accomdation problem (wasn't prepared at all for a hen to go broody) and didn't want to move the broody hen and eggs, even as advised at night as she was quite temperamental, also being a n00bie didn't have a clue how to to it.

I waited until the chicks had hatched and moved them to a separate safe nursery which was acquired in time. I have discovered that hens are rather jealous and some roosters may not appreciate the chicks being under foot and for the safety of the little ones move them, they could be pecked or trampled upon :(

Glad it all worked out.

Now we are trying to reintegrate the mother hen back with the adults, as her chicks are ready to leave. So far have been very unsuccessful.

Good luck with it all.

The reintegration went ok the hens gave mum a hard time at first but gave up after an hour and with a little help from the rooster
