NEW POULTRY BREED.

The "Sicilian Buttercup."

A new breed of . fowl hos been specially imported from America by Mrs. Louise Waclaw; of Fig Tree ('reek. These, the "Sicilian Butter- cups," until, three years ago, -were an almost unknown variety ot poul- try. They are notf being bred in three countries ; in fact, they are forging to thc front rank with such remarkable strides that they are càusing comment in the poultry press everywhere, ' and are a most popular variety of poultry with their owners, for those who try out the Buttercups become their fore- most friends. Even in England they have taken hold already.

.'Buttercup" type is always to1 be associated with the requirements ol Mediterranean fowls. Their original name was Sicilius Patera Opulenta! (Cup ol Riches), and at a» early date were much used in religious sacrifices. They were brought to America by^Captain C. Davis,- whe nave them an"'American name and called , them Sicilian Buttercups uniting, their name in their islant home with ' thc popular rcscrablano rj{, the - comb to the widely knowi

llower.

Thoy-have many sterling qualities They ; are very hardy, grow rapidly mature early, ¿rid frequently- lay at four months old. They lay a large, crearay-white, ,e%g, with a rich, gold- en yolk. They are even called "All [the Year Egg Machines," and they

j -'ay well all through their second I and third seasons. The weight of

j the male is 71b., and of the female

i from 3} to 4 Jib., being llb. heavier

than Leghorns.

Buttercups at seven weeks old, if properly fed, are as plump as part- ridges. Their round yellow bodies resemble ' balls of golden butter. Their flesh is exceptionally fine, and owing to the smallness of their bones, yield a large quantity of

meat.

As they are wonderful layers, there is no doubt that Buttercups will be- come a popular back-yard breed in Australia, especially Where space is

ürnited.

Th» "American Poultry Journal" mentions several of the leading American poultry farmers who have changed from White Leghorns to Buttercups, as the latter have been [.roved to be the better laying

strain.

Tile color of the bird is very diffi- cult to describe, but that of the Golden Fencilled Hamburg seems to describe the color of the Buttercups ci to-day. so far as the ground col-

or in both sexes is concerned.

Xo couih has yet been produced in poultry breeding that compares to

that of the Buttercup for beauty ? and uniqueness, and this one out- j standing characteristic will alone, if | nothing else, help to make them ex-

ceedingly popular. j

I have started the search sifting 631 that contained the search criteria from earlist to latest. Up to 399 and all the interesting stuff happens now. People that owned them, who had them, addresses etc. Interesting how they could possibly go extinct when in such popularity in the by gone era.

interesting yes - probable?? dare I say no and that they are here well and truely but not being exhibited or that they were bred into another breed by the kids or grandkids once Grandpa [or Ma] passed away? = most likely scenario? you see this so many times across the breeds!!

OMG
J F Dalrymple one of the two first people to import Sicilians to Australia 1914 was found shot dead 1937 beside the Princes Highway at Kogarah (Sydney Morning Herald 14 June 1937 age 68) He was from a well known family and in Real Estate.

MR. J. F. DALRYMPLE.

Found Shot at Kogarah. Sydney Morning Herald June 14 1937

The body of John Frederick Dalrymple, 68, of Prince's Highway, Kogarah, was found on a vacant allotment near Harrow-road, Kogarah, yesterday morning. There was a shotgun wound in the chest, and a single-barrel shot- gun with a discharged cartridge in the breech was near the body.

Mr. Dalrymple, who was a member of a well-known Sydney family, was a retired business man, formerly associated with the management of a picture theatre in the district.

MAN'S SUICIDE The Canberra Times June 14 1937

FOUND SHOT THROUGH HEART

Sequel to S.P. Inquiry Mention

SYDNEY, Sunday.

A wealthy retired poultry farmer, Frederick Dalrymple, whose name had been frequently mentioned in connection with, the Starting Price Royal Commission in that he brought pressure to bear on the Premier (Mr. Stevens) and other Cabinet Ministers in having Constable Jefferson Browne, transferred, from the Rockdale Police Station after constable Browne had charged him driving a car under the influence of liquor, was found dead today on a vacant allotment off Harrow Road, Kogarah, with his heart almost I blown to pieces.
A shotgun with one cartridge in the breach was found nearby.
Constable Browne alleged that he was transferred from the Rockdale Police Station to the Regent Police Station following representations by Dalrymple to the Premier (Mr. Stevens), and the Chief Secretary (Mr. F Chaffey), and the Minister for Justice (Mr. Martin), and the Police Commissioner (Mr. Mackay),

Mr. Windeyer, who was assisting the Commission denied the allegations and said that the reason for Browne's transference was on account of the suggestions made by local residents and had nothing to do with Dalrymple's prosecution.

It is surmised that death occurred last night, but the body was not discovered until this morning.

It appears that the fatal shot was fired by the means of a piece of string attached to the trigger.
