Lady Frances is sort of semi broody, every time she sat for prolong periods Lola would get her out of the nesting box.

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=53579

With fertile Marans eggs rather eggspensive, I was contemplating using fertile Barnevelder eggs.

I was wondering if a 4-6 egg clutch would be sufficient for her?

All opinions, advice and help appreciated.

Thank you, kindly 52.gif

Hi PP

As you know Clara sat on 4 and she did really well. I think she could have handled six as well as a first timer.

This time around I've put 12 under her & I found one pushed out the back of her, stone cold, so I put it back under her but I don't expect it to hatch, so I think 12 is a stretch.

Lady Francis is about the same size as Clara so I think she'd be good with 4-6 as the first time around. [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif]

Good luck with it all, I hope she turns out to be a great broody like my Clara. :-D

Cheers
Chicka-Dee

Thank you, kindly 52.gif Chicka-Dee for your opinion and advice,

gluck.gif to Clara, I think broody's sometimes sense that the egg is not viable and roll them from under them. Just possibly one of those instinctual things of Mother Nature.

You're welcome PP :-D

After I popped the egg back under Clara she has kept it under her so I am hoping it was just missed when she moved. It is alot of eggs to keep track of, but she's doing a super job so far, but I have heard of them rejecting eggs so I am keeping track of that fact.

When I get my incubator next week, it comes with a candler, so I was going to try and give candling a go once we reach day 10.

Will try and post a photo of her soon. Tuesday will be week one down, with only another 2 to go :-D :-D

Thank you, kindly 52.gif everyone, being her first clutch, how much money should I spend on 1/2 dozen eggs to give Lady Frances a chance of motherhood?
