There had been conjecture whether a reacreation would breed true.

This has worked incredibly well & I am pleased to say with assistance of another breeder providing incubation assistance, the mating between the gold buttercup cockeral and gold pullet is successful at producing progeny that replicate the parents. Moreover, the new generation appear to reflect true feather pattern of overseas buttercups, ie the ovate feather patterning. The infants' down pattern identicle to that of overseas infant buttercups. The pullet having influenced the regulatory black ovate pattern derived from gold spangled at an even distance across the feather with gold pencilled passing on the information for the spacing as well as the lighter gold pattern expected of gold buttercups. I don't think this has been done anywhere in the world before. Both Crawford (Poultry Breeding and Genetics) advises the influence of unknown ovate feather patterning and Somes work providing no conclusions, (Genetics of Buttercup Plumage Pattern). Thanks for the pics Frank. They are not all the dis-similar to these guys,although the combs very obviously need work as do other things no doubt. Not bad I guess for F1's that are being bred for something else entirely.

I look forward to the progeny pics.

These guys are from a horn comb X single comb.

Ohhh and no the cockeral is not blind in one eye...the light reflected off his eye.

Fantastic effort though. If I was starting all over, I could manage to extract enough from those birds to get where I am now so good stuff. If you look back at page one of this trhread you will see I mentioned you could get buttercup from any duplex comb so there you go!

Pics will be taken late and I will have to transfer from one phone to another beofre downloading to computer.

Thanks Frank. Am considering selling this lot if I get enough F2's out how I want,so if anyone is interested in working with these guys send me a pm.
