The standards say 4-6 serrations, so three B's all have the correct number of serrations. Bruce has the better comb of the two boys, right? Butch's serrations don't seem to be as evenly spaced.

I just took another look at two of my boys (below) and while the combs are different, they each have 4-6 serrations (I'm going by memory on the second one, but even an educated guess can fill in how the rest of that comb looks).

So...another question: Is it better to have bigger angles? That is, serrations which are lower and wider rather than tall and pointy?

A look at the photos at the Australorp club's website seem to indicate the former.

Thanks.

That one seems to be a perfect combination of my two above. The dips between the serrations are not as deep as the first boy and not as shallow as the second.

Should his beak be darker? Other than that possibility, his head looks great to me (remember though that I am no expert on anything much to do with chooks).

Ian was on APF earlier this morning...he sent me a couple of PMs. I'm surprised he didn't add a comment to this thread. Maybe he only had time to read and reply to PMs.

Nice Headshot Glenn , Thanks for joining in and he's got a good head on him 8) , I didn't get a chance to look earlier as I've been flat out , but yes the standard says 4-6 serrations ' evenly serrated ' I'm trying for less rather than more personally , But thats just my preference , and I would prefer lower than tall and spindly , I have one Hen at home that's got a very low comb ,to low! I will try to get a Photo of her next , actually I am doing a deliberate Breeding from her  (of course) ... Now that Photo of Glenns Thats a nice Comb 8) I will try to take some photo's today of Faults in combs (I've got Plenty to choose from ;) ) and If anyone else can help with Headshots as Greenaus and Glenn have done (Thanks Heaps) It would be Great .
