Thanx for the positive comments Greenaus and Bunyanuternie.

Greenaus i would love for his beak to be darker, working on that with his sons, at the moment he is with some good darker beaked hens with combs of three to four serrations to try and correct the folds near he's beak.

Bunyanuternie i will try and take some photos tomorrow of my cockerels with 3 to 4 serrations they just need a week or 2 to finish off.

Bunyanuternie i was looking at some old photos and found these.
The roo is the sire to my cockerels a couple of weeks off maturity and the hen is in the breeding pen now with the other rooster from my last post.

Looking forward to them ...

It has amazed me how much a comb in a young Cockerel grows , I am trying to work hard on the Combs of my own Australorps and I've kept more Males than I would have before , Just to see how they'd mature . Watching the Growth of the Comb from Hatching to 10 months old very closely , Is a very interesting and Amazing Thing chicken.gif .

Yes the growth of the comb and wattles is amazing just as they reach maturity in both males and females.
I have a cockerel penned at the moment, was going to show him this week, but that 4 letter word called :( work has taken up to much time and i forgot to send of the forms, will take photos of him tomorrow :)

You guys are making it very hard for me to leave my Australorps elsewhere for much longer. I'm gonna have to go and bring back the pullets at least so that I can look at their combs and faces and heads and lobes and beaks (the hens are still recovering from a combination of moulting and a few too many cockerels visiting their pen at once).

Despite Winter approaching...or being here already...I'm itching to put some eggs in the incubator. In fact, I want to fill it up...no seriously...if I could set 126 (pure breed) eggs all at once and hatch a high percentage of them, it might lift my spirits...or at least give me so much work to do that I don't have time to be unhappy.

Hmmmm...where to find that many eggs. Oh well...it's better to try and fail than to have never tried at all.

I actually have a Good hatch rate when it's Cooler , I have to wrap the Bators in Blankets But The Constant Toe Freezing Cold Means I don't have to Battle the Ambient Temperature being Higher than my Bators

The Best Part about winter is Watching an Australorp Feather up ;) You need those Really Cold Nights to let them Feather up properly , I'm enjoying watching My Cockerels Get Their full Tails 8)

I love your Saying Greenaus , Better to have Tried and Failed than not having Tried at all a_bravo.gif

Goodonya Mate .

My Australorps are all over the place with molting some started early autumn, while the last of them are still going. Only a few more days and we will be at the shortest amount of daylight hours for the year all gets busy after that. A couple of my hens have started laying already. [smilie=18_13_1.gif]
