hey all iam looking into getting some game chickens
just curious what types their are and prices

That sounds exciting-are they like guinea fowl? I am not sure what game chickens are...but keen to find out!

Gamefowl-Game breeds of chicken for example OEG and Malay
Gamebirds-Pheasants,Quail,Peafowl,Guineafowl

Game chickens are usually very hardy and active birds although they are not the best layers.
Most were used for cock fighting but now the are show birds.(can be crossed with softfeathers to make great meat birds)
Below is a list of birds i belive are in australia
Malay,Shamo,Aseel(asil),OEG,Moderns,Pit,Aussie,Thai and im sure theres more.
As for a price its really depends on quality and rarity.

Hey nat so youe looking at get game hey........

Good choice I must say. What is your intended purpose to show or just to have as a pet.There are a few main game typpes out there modern game, old english, australian pit game, aussie, indian, jubalee,asieal which are rarely seen at shows and malay. There is also in each of these breeds a large and bantam size. Also in the large pits there is a heavey and light size.

The real question is what do you want to do the old english is one of the most breed fowls in australia and comes in the most amount of colours as any fowl, then there is the pits that are an australian breed fowl and colour doesnt matter. The best bet is decid what you want to do. Bellsouth and brookfield poultry sell a great range of books on the subject or get yourself a copy of australiasn poultry, look in the back for your local poultry club or specialist breed clubs most of the are all there.

I dont know what area your from or other wise I might know some good breeders near you,my sugestion is when you make the decision on what you like and by some,even if you dont want to show try and get some females at least with a good body type and stance, this will allow you later on down the track if you do widh to show a starting point and then all you will need to find is a good male. Always remember female carries your type while male carries your colour and flow of feather.

Old english can be a bit touchy with laying, pits are great layers normaly when they come on and one of the best fowls to hatch and raise chicks no matter what breed you stick underr them. Some of the best soft feather breeders have pits in their yards because they are one of the best cluckes you can get... I mysef show old english game brown red,greys and duns as well as pit game muff and plain faces in bantam form. I am also a member of the QLD and Aus pit game fowl club and the OEG club of australia as well as two local poultry clubs in the south east queensland vaccinity.........

depends who you get them from alot of good breeders will gladly help out a first timer and if there good to them give them some good birds for free, other breeders just se dollar signs and will try to take you for a ride. Price depends on what you get and who you get them from.

Prices range from $5 threw to 3,4,5+ name your price for a good bird, pair or trio. At the cobulture auction a couple weeks back I herd a guy bought a black red male bird for $410, and have seen a bird of athol pengellys who has now passed away go for $800. When buying you got to look at what you want it for, just to have as a pet, to show or to breed with so you can lead to you showing later down the track. My advice is go to ag shows or find out when your local club show is on.
