White Australorps
I have black australorps and yesterday was asked if I had white australorps? I have never heard of white australorps are they around? Do they exhist? if so are they very rare? maybe they are just pulling my leg?

I have read on many forums, websites that they do exist but are very rare, and mostly say they are bantams. I have been trying to find a breeder myself who breeds them in South Australia

As originally bred, Australorps were black. People are breeding all sorts of new colours into breeds these days, but are they really that breed anymore?

until you get to white .

Take what Andrew said on board .I agree. I have a motto that I've pinched off an old Pekin Breeder but the same rule should apply to any breed really ....

If you are planning on 'colour breeding' Always keep a 'Black' Australorp in your yard so you will always remember what they ' SHOULD ' look like :mrgreen:

I have seen White bantams that are getting there , and there is a lady off this forum working on White large , There have been a few nice Blues at some of the shows I've attended ,some of the Blues I have seen were very good .

It's very hard and takes a very dedicated breeder to breed 'White Australorp'

I think the advice you were given Ernie is invaluable.
To keep the goal in full view at all times.
If you are breeding whites and don't keep you eye on the correct type and character all you have is another white fowl.
I have done this with my Malays and Cochins, I have an enlarged photo of exceptional type birds of each breed on my wall, I see it everyday and is a constant reminder of what I am striving for.
Like wise when I judge I sit and re-read the standards to refresh what the standard requires, not because I lack confidence but so it is fresh in my memory the finer points that are required.
We have all seen fowls that do not embody the true breed type and essence of breed character, ie Rhode Islands that have a Rock head and expression. etc etc
When you read and study breed standards they all contain this essence of the breed and have key words that highlight what the particular standard requirements that set one breed apart from another.
It all takes time and patience to seek out and learn the subtle differences between breeds and colours in all varieties either standard or bantam varieties.
The trick is to learn these subtle differences and identify them when breeding, or judging and be able to articulate them so as to be able to pass on your knowledge.
