Hi
than657 Sue for the topic but I cant afford Baycox. Is there anything else I can use?
Thanks

Amprolium - the alternative

many cant afford Boycox in the larger bottles - but some suppliers do make it available in smaller quantities = you would have to ask your supplier

Can you use yellow sulphur powder added to their water/feed?

Not sure about that one it is used for external parasites
The one I have on hand is coccivet I think it's up in the shed so can't check on the spelling.

some give their birds small amounts of sulphur in their feed but like Colloidal Silver (well covered in another thread) there is no scientific evidence it does anything in the positive spectrum

Baycox is the best treatment in an outbreak because it is the only drug which kills the coccidial parasite.

The other drugs stop the parasite from multiplying but won't kill it.
These include amprolium (coccivet; amprolium) and sulpha drugs ( eg SulphaD; sulphadim), and typically need to be used for much longer (7 + days)

Coccidiosis is worse after wet weather (because moisture aids the survival & infectivity of coccidial eggs or oocysts).
Stress and overcrowding also can make the problem worse.
Stress lowers the immune system.
Overcrowding is a stressor but also increases the contamination rate in the environment.
Typically, young birds are most susceptible.

I second that! wave.gif

You gave me wonderful advice when my babies were sick Parvo and they recovered quickly than657

You are so right, Baycox just knocks it for 6.

I wouldn't use any other treatment. :-D

My babies were 7 weeks old when I gave them the Baycox but if they needed it at a younger age I would not have hesitated to give it to them.
