Well I don't know hence I asked. Many drugs for adults cannot be given to children, same in cats and dogs but birds??

Depends on what you mean by harmful...

Do you mean does it burn their insides ? Or causes blood clots...or...is it harmful in a way that something is passed on to you because the chicks have ingested the drug into their system??

What exactly do you mean by harmful?

I would have to say anything that has to be strong enough to kill a parasite would need to have some level of harshness but drug companies are pretty good at creating drugs to minimise damage to the host in order to kill the parasite.

Obviously drug companies have to put warnings out related to using the drug on animals that produce goods for human consumption as there would have to be some residual in the produced product that may get passed on to the human through the product, and human needs always come first over that of an animals, but it is up to the human to decide if they want to use a product on their animal that produces goods for them.

If in doubt, go direct to the source. Call the company that produces the drug. That's what I did. :-D I called the drug company & asked them the questions that I needed answers to in order to ease my mind before purchasing the drug.

That said, I did notice my girl who had the Baycox had a lot of trouble with her egg laying at the start. I don't know if that was because of the Baycox drug or because of the parasite causing any internal damage or if it was not even related to the drug at all, but I guess I will never know.

I decided to use it regardless & I like eating her eggs so I don't regret my decision.

The one drug I would not use is Baytril, now that is some toxic stuff th_Noooo.gif

Baytril is excellent when used correctly but you need to follow the withholding instructions

I think what haystacks is asking is it harmful to chicks because they have not full developed such as organs ect... the best answer is to ask your local vet if its suitable or not

Is it better to use chick starter or turkey starter for the meds?

Turkey starter has a higher protein ,
It's Ok to use on game breeds and the large soft feather breeds
