Bread has little nutritional value for chooks.I do know of some breeders who feed it in their mash feeds but I feel its only a belly filler. Please dont feed it to them dry as it can cause impaction in the throat.Soak it first if you wish to feed it .When we first started we did feed some soaked bread as advised by some breeders until we researched on it.When we fed it to our chooks we found our chooks became lethargic and they put fat on but an unhealthy fat.So I researched on nutition and found it was the same rule of thumb as I had with my show horses.

The only time we feed bread now is on a very rare occasion when we soak it with yoghurt as a pick me up but its the yoghurt that's the important ingredient.

We don't have any problems with weight with our chooks. We have always fed abb lib.We fill their containers up and they will eat when they want and how much they want.Certain days they will consume more other days less.
We have about 300 chooks so a good diet is essential.
I remember as a child my mum feeding her back yard layers and she always had a hopper full of food let them out daily for their "natural" nutrients and feed them the kitchen scraps .They were "blooming" healthy chooks.
