Hey guys and girls.

Because you guys know everything.....

where the heck do i buy these fake chicken eggs ??? preferably in brown colour.

My chicken, who is laying for nearly a week now, always laid in the next box from day 1 ! but i found a egg under the high rise coop no where near the next boxes today !

So i dont know if it was an accident yet or a one off..... but i wanted to buy some fake chicken eggs to show the other 4 girls where to lay and encourage them to get started too...

But i went to 3 shops today (local pet food supply, big chain store pet ware hour, and smaller private pet shop business) no one sells them.

Where did you buy yours ?!?!?! and how much ? ebay ones seam a bit pricey for a FAKE egg !

My isa brown girls and I thank you in advance for your help.

Have you tried the place you buy your feed? Don't know if I've ever seen brown ones. Not sure the chooks care either for that matter.

Could be a different girl. Once they start laying in a spot they like to keep using it.

I got mine from a $2 shop. I think they are plaster or something so they won't last as long as plastic or ceramic.

Good luck.

No i think it was the same girl... because i only get 1 egg a day (so far) and today the egg was in the nest box.... no egg on the ground.

I still want to buy fake ones though...

And no my feed store doesn't sell them. They sell just about everything you can imagine, but not fake eggs.

A chicken owner friend of ours recommended the platic casings from Kinder Surpirse. Ok, admittedly they're yellow but I agree, will the chooks care? For $2 you get a chocolate and a toy as well  I'm going to give them a go. I also heard old golf balls work just as well and, again, chepaer than the dummy eggs.

Might be easier for you to locate the chocolate solution today!

hahahaha i'll try that bobkat. i have lots of those laying around the kids rooms.

But my chickens are scared of anything new and unusual... including pegs !!! so maybe the bright yellow thing might make them scared too.

Also have HEAPS of golfballs. As everyone in this family plays golf.

GOOD THINKING !

$12 bucks for Ebay ones... I'm not money saving, but for plastic eggs you think they'd be less. I will buy them if they scared of everything , and above doesn't work.

Have you asked the feed store if they will get them in? They're a complimentry line to the rest of their stock, they might be able to find some shelf space to stock a few or even just a one off order for you.... if The Price Is Right!

Our local stock feed sells plastic eggs for $1.30. The Reject Shop had plastic eggs at Easter time.

But if you are fortunate enough to have an elderly great, great, great aunt from the "Old Country" that kept chooks you may be lucky enough to get a marble egg! Even luckier for two or more...
