Is it very difficult to get a gun licence these days? I had one 30 years ago and now on large property I too am thinking of a small firearm for pest control

so long as you have a current Firearms licence it is easy
if you dont go to your local Police Station and ask for the forms AND the details re where and when the test is held

the better licence to apply for is category A & B Longarm - unless you are going to be a security guard or Police officer very few are given a hand gun licence so dont waste yr time trying to get one of these - the paperwork alone will kill you
you do have to sit a test - and pass it regards firearms safety to get a Licence - yr local Police can help with that as listed above

on the aplication put HUNTING as the reason for the Licence do not put anything else - there is also a section that a land ownder (land acerage) has to fill out to substantiate the hunting - the forms are pretty easy to understand and follow

if you live IN town - it helps if you are a member of a Rifle Club but not necessary
if you live in a rural area - get the Firearms licence if you dont have one already and once you have that = then buy an approved gunsafe from a firearms dealer and ask at the point of purchase for an application to acquire a firearm = fill it out = reason for acquiring firearm section = VERMIN CONTROL (they will help you re the type of weapon - calibre, bolt or slide action, number of rounds per clip etc) make sure yr Firearms licence number your details and the type etc of firearm you want are correct (make sure you double check all details before sending) and send it away with the fee - once approved there is a 28 day waiting period then they post the authority to purchase to you = go buy the weapon/s = you can ONLY get the type you have applied for - to transport them home you HAVE to have secure holding for them = a vehicle gun safe - do not have any bullets in the clip and do not have it in the weapon - get it home - check it out - load the clip - attach to weapon and try it out SAFELY

My avatar rooster, the old boy Huguenot just died and all the hens are cackling. Tumor in his throat for at least six weeks. Born late 2005, exhbited at New and Rarebreeds, Canberra Royal 2008. Otherwise fit and good looking.

Survived by a lookalike son who promises to be quite a stunner sharing the pen with his half brother, a buttercup cockeral. Um and several pullet hens.

Two buttercups and the Australian Huguenot (entered in Section 331) are entered into Canberra. The Huguenot should provide some interesting discussion as for all intensive purposes, it appears as a Gold La Fleche, cavernous beak and horn comb included. I will appreciate comments later from people who have the chance to take a look and express their opinions. I am not looking for negative or positive comments rather thoughts on the appearance of the fowl.

Mindful that when the variety is standardised, I aim for legs to be willow.

I would love one or two now, they are just lovely and very distinct. I recently lost a lovely little Wyandotte Pullet that had decided that i was friend material, she use to come and sit on my lap to have a cuddle and a chat with me each afternoon. I miss her terribly (that really does sound sad doesnt it on more than one level

). I have 7 other girls of various sizes and colours but none come close to Peri, she had a beautiful soul.

I also work at an outdoor education school in Canberra and we have a thriving chicken population where we teach children about where eggs actually come from amongst other things.

Will you be bringing any additional girls to Canberra?

Just scrolling through those photos in your post, photo 5 looks to be of naked necks? is this part of your breeding program?

I do love the feather patterns they are lovely and the horns are cute.
