The videos have now been done regarding NAPIS They are in the final preparation stage so will advise when available and on utube.I have had a sneak peak and they are very informative .There will be 6 Sortest 3 minutes longest 7 minutes.They discuss what NAPIS is,Why Legband,The Ring Register The logbook, How to measure a birds legs and how to ring and Summary.In April we hope to film more segments that will be based on questions.

nice idea but i was just going to use leg rings to make my chickens look funky [smilie=a_cookiemonster.gif]

but i like your thinking. but my chickens are (usually) like homing pigeons.(sure there have been some that have gone to the neighbours and haven't come back but still... :-?

This is such a debatable topic. I personally would love to see some sort of identification system implemented, as a victim of numerous thefts in the past.
Although, its just a matter of how you would do it though. Leg rings would seem too easy to remove, in my opinion. But it seems like the easiest way to do such a thing. As like the budgerigar club, only the steward knowing would be an ideal way to do it. Micro-chipping seems to be on of the only foolproof way. But as with ANY system, there will always be someone who finds a way around it.
Then there's the added cost on top of it all. Majority of people are hobby breeders. Not saying us hobbyists are less fond of our birds, by any means, just less inclined to want to spend all that more on keeping track of these things. Which leads to increased prising for poultry stock as well.
My suggestion would be to implement a system that's not compulsory.

p.s, sorry if ive already stated what others have said, this is just how I personally feel on the situation

how do those that are wanting this system implemented guarantee that the leg bands can't be removed
and is it going to be implemented as a "You have to do it or else" thing or a voluntary thing

i think microchipping is too expensive for me....anyway i have a smallish flock so im good! dh8989u9

I purchase Microchips in bulk and do the chipping myself it is cheap that way
It is also a good way to help with record keeping – obviously I am an exhibition breeder and exhibitor

The leg bands can be cut off BUT this is not about security of fowls this is about Show Fowl breeding and show records for breeders and clubs. This mean that a breed can sell his or her "club rung" fowl and the buyers have a means of tracing the breeder and its breeding records and even buy another fowl related ect...... The cost of the rings are 20c just 20c so 5 for $1 or 10 for $2 ect.. its cheap and will prove VERY affective as it has with ALL other show birds. It cannot be voluntary if its national like pigeons, budgerigars or canary's ect... and I think if you want to show fowl then they should be club rung as it is with ALL others.
