I am in Logan and we had recent changes also they increased the land size needed for the same amount of chooks so many people are now over but like many we don't care they have to find us first

Geelong Council :

In line with Section 7 of Councils General Local Law 2005 up to 12 hens and one rooster are allowed to be kept on residential land.
A permit is not required for up to 12 hens and one rooster on a residential block.

If you decide to keep chickens, you must ensure that they are kept in a secure manner to prevent them getting out (or other animals getting in). You must also provide them with adequate shelter, food and water at all times and ensure the birds do not produce noise or smells that cause any discomfort or inconvenience for your neighbours.

If your hen hatches chicks and you end up with more than 12 hens and one rooster on your property, you may keep the chicks until they are 12 weeks old. Once they reach this age, the maximum number of 12 hens and 1 rooster will re-apply.

Dogs 2
Cats 2
Medium Animals - including sheep, goats, pot-belly sized pigs and miniature horses Permit required
Small Animals - including rabbits, guinea pigs and ferrets 4
Birds 30
Fowl (excluding rooster) 12
Other poultry (including ducks, geese, turkeys and pheasants) 4
Roosters, Cockatoos, Galahs 1
Pigeons 12 pair

Good place to live if you like a variety of animals. wee.

In the City of Booroondara in Melbourne, with suburbs including Hawthorn and Camberwell they can keep

Animal type Number allowed without permit

Dogs (over three months old) 2

Ferrets 2
Rabbits, guinea pigs and mice 5
Rats 0
Farm animals 0
Roosters, peafowl or guinea fowl 0
Chickens and pheasants 6
Turkeys, ducks and geese 2
Poultry other than those specified above 4
Domestic birds (caged, non-poultry) 20

So that's 2 more chookies that what we can keep in the country :shock:

what happens if you get wild duck mix with your 2 ducks and they breed are the ducklings counted as wild or domestic? Councils are a waste of space and money

You know, the silly thing is, my council set all these other rules about distances etc etc but nowhere that I could see did they mention a limit. You would think that would have been a biggy.

At the moment we have four but are waiting on 3 more so will have a final flock of seven including one rooster. Think that will do us.

Yes that's a good idea.Perhaps ask your neighbours?

Also in the logan shire and same I have good neighbors so they never complain

Our is very confusing as its all about land size not zone but all the land sizes overlap so we could be 6 hens or 10 hens? we went with 10 hens
